Publisher's summary

They tried to take everything from me. Instead, I got one of the strongest assassin classes in existence. Now, I'm going to show them how it's really done.

Starting over is never easy, but after acquiring the deadly Plague Revenant class, I'm rather looking forward to my new life. Killing people has never been something I was too interested in, but after losing my friends to a darkness-worshipping asshole and his cronies during a bounty hunt, I've put all that aside. Now, I'm going to be the hunter, and they will be the prey.

The city of Greystone is a vicious place, one that is unforgiving and opportunistic. I will not forgive, and I will take every opportunity thrown my way to get stronger short of praying to the dark god. Enough lunatics are doing that already...

After adopting an alcoholic talking pangolin-badger War Beast from another world with a sharp tongue and keen mind, an interesting opportunity presents itself to hurry along my chance for revenge.

After having kept my hands to myself for years, It's time to enjoy myself a bit as well with an enemy-turned-ally magician who is as smart as she is beautiful, a bar owner who can equally hold herself in a fight as much as with liquor, and the only other survivor other than myself, a golden-haired healer who's even more damaged than I am.

Change looms behind Greystone's colossal walls as guilds vanish, arena fighters wind up dead, and whispers of a great war permeate the streets. My name is Cade, a man driven by vengeance, and I am going to bring it all down!

Jessica seemed bored

Jess lacked a lot of energy with this one. Which was disappointing considering her usual stellar performances. Pacing is a bit off. It’s like the author couldn’t pick a speed. Cramming all that world building, character development, and plot into the span of 7-10 days (in book) felt rushed. The relationships suffered greatly because of it. The story is good but greater detail should have been added in and the pacing fixed.

I just don't understand.

I don't understand the war beast and how he is as smooth as an eight ball but can still pee in a light pole. The only part of the book I didn't really care for was the voice he used for the creator and how he treated him like crap. It was kinda cool because in most of these books he would have been the mc but we are seeing the world through the eyes of a local that couldn’t care less his friend was from another dimension or world. The mc was barley likable he crossed over the thin line between confidence an butthole. Likes to be in complete control of everyone around him and loves to correct people. Feels like it should have been longer. There is a ton of set up then it's over. I hope in book 2 they can actually do something or at very least accomplish more. This book you get a few short fights and a lot of shopping.

Terrific First Novel

Pros: exciting world that we are drawn into at the start and kept the pace throughout the novel even into a very harrowing cliffhanger conclusion

Cons: Some of the monsters and races are not very familiar and you are immediately dropped into this world at the start of the book.and,?of course, a cliffhanger ending!!

All in all: if you can get past the first chapter or two, then you are in for a great adventure despite the ending

AI produced fever dream.

I like the authors other books like Zenith Academy, but this is an AI created fever dream.

The story after the abrupt beginning just kept getting more jagged. Like driving down a street with hundreds of potholes. It was just one thing after another. Be it living in a fantasy world but all the sudden acting like it was a video game. Even saying that “ only players or adventurers can own a guild house”. I was like wait… that had never been mentioned. The story had me rewinding trying to figure out where I had gone astray. Talking isekai’d
Pangolin and new hot female teammate that somehow found your place after you went to great lengths to hide. That aside, I couldn’t deal with the inconsistency, mashed potatoes of conversations, and all around where the hell did that come from.

So in closing it really felt like someone told an AI I want X amount of best selling book tropes, about an orphan assassin that lost his family to a psycho, but the new hot girl survived. And then I will edit the output by giving it to an intern.

My recommendation.. Skip this one.

MC is too chauvinistic for me

Not great writing. Things are kind of random and characters act out of character from time to time. and the MC keeps acting super jealous and controlling of the women.

Couldn’t get past the pangolin part….

Title. Plus I don’t like the main male voice actor. Just not a very good book I think…
