About this listen

An original full-length novel set in the Halo universe and based on the New York Times best-selling video game series!

Molly Patel was only seven years old when the alien alliance known as the Covenant destroyed her homeworld and killed her family. As one of the few to escape the glassing of Paris IV, and despite the United Nations Space Command winning the war on behalf of humanity, Molly never forgot how much she had lost.

Nine years later, when her adoptive parents - research scientists specializing in ancient Forerunner technology - are called to the mysterious and wondrous place known as Onyx, Molly vehemently objects. It's not so much that Molly's concerned about relocating to inside a spherical construct the diameter of an entire solar system but the fact that she also has to live alongside members of the same alien species that murdered her family. And when the Servants of the Abiding Truth - a violent ex-Covenant sect under the guidance of the notorious Pale Blade - somehow makes its way inside this supposedly impregnable sphere, Molly is now forced to consider if she and her new parents have made a terrible and fatal mistake in coming here....

Great expansion of the Halo universe. The characters were captivating and the arrangement was logical and made literary sense. Performance excellent as usual. Leaves you wanting More! Get that pen moving😉

One of the Best

The story was phenomenal and brought me smiling, to the edge of my seat and kackaling at work. many times confusing my coworkers.

as someone so avid and in the know on halo lore. things popped into place and make sense throughout the whole story.

a fresh read. a bit different from other.

I liked the fact we got a normal surviver prospective. also a glimpse Into a bridge building between humans and elites. I do find it annoying that the hurogock from onyx could not detect another of it kind from the enemy camp. also they mention that more Spartans were K.i.a. but no mention of who... over all a good read. It does make you wonder if there will be an effort to make a special cross species force to help keep check threats. as all of the characters seem to bring different elements and skills to the table just a thought.

new perspectives and glorious foreshadowing

narration by Scott brick is always an A+. brings a new perspective in the eyes of a civilian child during and after the covenant war that left her an orphan. my complaint though.... they glorified the kids and made them out to be lucky superheros and brushed the spartans off to the side. great book otherwise.

Great change of pace f

Great change of pace From typical Halo stories in that It showed you halo thru the eyes of a 7 year old and showed what would happen when humans, grunts and Sangheil grow up together

Great, but too much humanization.

I appreciate the story and the message, but there were a few moments such as an Unggoy actually crying with tears. There is only one species on Earth that cries with tears and its humans. I highly doubt any other species anywhere in the galaxy would do the same. There were a few other moments that felt similar. In addition it felt rushed towards the end of the novel there was a little bit too much deus ex machina towards the end to make the plot line up neatly. And too much explaining of what's going on and what to do by the characters. Still up until the end I really enjoyed it and thought it was well written... That was sort of a Hollywood ending though, and not in a good way.
