About this listen

Invite Hannibal Lecter into the palace of your mind and be invited into his mind palace in turn. Note the similarities in yours and his, the high vaulted chambers of your dreams, the shadowed halls, the locked storerooms where you dare not go, the scrap of half-forgotten music, the muffled cries from behind a wall.

In one of the most eagerly anticipated literary events of the decade, Thomas Harris takes us once again into the mind of a killer, crafting a chilling portrait of insidiously evolving evil - a tour de force of psychological suspense. Seven years have passed since Dr. Hannibal Lecter escaped from custody, seven years since FBI Special Agent Clarice Starling interviewed him in a maximum security hospital for the criminally insane. The doctor is still at large, pursuing his own ineffable interests, savoring the scents, the essences of an unguarded world. But Starling has never forgotten her encounters with Dr. Lecter, and the metallic rasp of his seldom-used voice still sounds in her dreams. Mason Verger remembers Dr. Lecter, too, and is obsessed with revenge. He was Dr. Lecter's sixth victim, and he has survived to rule his own butcher's empire. From his respirator, Verger monitors every twitch in his worldwide web. Soon he sees that to draw the doctor, he must have the most exquisite and innocent-appearing bait; he must have what Dr. Lecter likes best. Powerful, hypnotic, utterly original, Hannibal is a dazzling feast for the imagination. Prepare to travel to hell and beyond as a master storyteller permanently alters the world you thought you knew.

Absolutely great!

Narrator has a wide variety of accents, impressed rendition of Mason Verger's voice and character.

This was a very good bood, especially the unexpected twists. I lovxed the ending . I would have liked it even better if Thomas Harris had done the reading

LOVE. THIS. SERIES.

I decided to venture into the Hannibal series because my GSDs are named after the main characters (thank my husband). I've never seen the movies because I've never been a fan of suspense/thriller movies, but thought I might enjoy the books. This series has become my absolute favorite series I have ever read (or in this case listened to).
**Small Spoiler Ahead** I love how Hannibal ended!! I'm a sap for a love story & this finished nicely. ❤ In my opinion, the best part of this book is when they eat Krindler's brain & he asks if its good. 😂

Brilliant and dark

Harris at his darkest. A deeply disturbing and thrilling version of Beauty and the Beast.

Best Lecter

I enjoyed the man with no lips and no face. Fantastic narration and this is my favorite book in the Hannibal Lecter series. Well done and hats off to you.

exceptional reading, rich story

of course, this is the sequel to Silence of the Lambs. the book being so much better than the botched fiasco of a movie that was slopped out hurriedly by an aging Ridley Scott. the book is rich in descriptions, especially of Italy and its history. there is a real love affair with language and story in this great novel. the narrator does an outstanding job with the voices and reading of the text, so much so I would enjoy listening to this book again. Some have complained that his rendering of the voice of Mason Verger is hard to understand but I had no trouble comprehending if I listened closely and it made the novel so much more immersible and real. I think this is one of those rare productions where listening to the book is superior to actually reading the text.

Dragged on

Daniel did a great job narrating, but his voice for the burn victim was grating and completely obnoxious to me. This book was definitely not near as interesting to me as Red Dragon or Silence of the Lambs. To be fair, I may have just been getting tired of this series and ready to move on to something different since this was the last of the 4 in the Hannibal Lecter series.

Exquisitely gruesome.

This is not for the faint of heart. The descriptions paint a vivid picture that made me cringe, but all for the betterment of the story. This was guilty pleasure.
