About this listen

When Hattie Stout boards the train bound for the western frontier, she doesn't think things can get any worse. Her father lost his fortune and made her a pariah in New York society. Then, the man she was engaged to marry backed out of the arrangement to marry his cousin. When her parents decide there is nothing left to do but send her west as a Mail Order Bride, she thinks she's hit rock bottom. She's wrong!

Sheriff Ed Milton is comfortable in the life he's carved out for himself in his small mining town. But he's never met anyone quite like Hattie Stout before. When she steps out of the stage coach that fateful summer's day, she makes an impression he finds difficult to forget. She's beautiful, cultured and obviously wealthy - so what is she doing in Coloma?

A tragedy draws them together in a way neither one of them expects. And just when they think they can move on, it comes back to haunt them. Will they ever be free to follow their hearts?

Love this series

Ms. Holt knows how to draw her reader in with these short story. I couldn’t even begin to think how these girls felt losing everything from their families money to the life as they know it all to be sent to marry a man they didn’t know. My heart really went out to them. I listened to this in a box set seeing how each girl had to deal with her own issues. They show how strong they are, what they are willing to do, to make a new life for them. As things start going well there is news from home that may change each girls feelings on their new life.

The narrator did a wonderful job really making you feel the emotion of each girl as she goes through some very trying times. Things are easy for these woman who give so much of their selves. The character voices are wonderful, you always know who is talking and what they are feeling. Her male and female voices are given with strength and character. There are no repeating of words, no background noise, no volume changes. If breaks were taken I could not tell. This is one narrator I know I will enjoy listening to each time I pick up one of her new audios. I really look forward to listening to her voice.

I really enjoyed the twists and turns as the author hooks you from the first page to the last. It doesn’t take long for these woman to feel tragedy one thing leads to another as the author spins a delightful tale with action, broken hearts, tragedy and a love that will warm your heart. It is a short sweet Christian romance filled with excitement.

Another historical winner

Another winner from Vivi Holt . Meagan again was fantastic. She nailed it. Her voice was clear , strong and she did all the characters right on .

Hero is Ed. Heroine is Hattie

Hattie had to go out west as a mail order bride . Hattie had no choice but to leave New York for out west .Her father lost everything. In order for the family to survive she had to start off fresh .
On her way to Coloma the stage coach she’s on is held up . Nobody knows who is behind the robbery . The trip continues. Once Hattie reaches Coloma , her eyes falls on the sheriff. She wonders if he is her intended.
Is he grab it and find out. You will love this audio.

Hattie

Hattie's family has lost their fortune and have decided to ship her off out west as a mail order bride. Only they don't realize they have agreed to marry her to an outlaw. After being robbed she is stuck with nothing and living in the back of a bar working for room and board, hoping to save enough to return home. The story is filled with adventure and struggles of the time. Meghan Kelly does a super job with the narration.

Clean read

This could be read as a standalone. There were times I felt like slapping Hattie for what she did but then again she would be out of character if she did anything else.
There is some violence but I would say it more mild. I have read books that are more discriptive. There is no sexual content or profanity.

The Best!!!

A wonderful sweet romance that warms the heart! Hattie has been sent out west to be a mail order bride due to her parents having lost all their wealth. On the stage there, they are held up by a band of outlaws and she's beside herself. The first person she talks to is the Sheriff Ed and he can't believe who this beautiful girl has come to marry,
There are a lot of twist and turns, humor, outlaws, unexpected friendships formed and an attraction that cannot be denied. With the wonderful words by Vivi Holt and the amazing narration by Meghan Kelly, I never wanted it to end!!

Hattie and Ed

The blurb for this book starts with: When Hattie Stout boards the train bound for the western frontier, she doesn't think things can get any worse. Her father lost his fortune and made her a pariah in New York society. Then, the man she was engaged to marry, backed out of the arrangement to marry his cousin. When her parents decide there is nothing left to do but send her west as a Mail Order Bride, she thinks she's hit rock bottom. She's wrong!

The story starts with the stage Hattie is traveling on being attacked by outlaws and she finds herself in an even worse situation when she arrives in the small mining town and finds that her groom is not there to meet her, she has no money because of the holdup and is left on the street. Fortunately for her the sheriff of the town, Ed Milton, takes pity on her, he feeds her and finds her somewhere to stay.

Ed is from the South and is a perfect gentleman, he is happy with where his life has taken him and the life he has made for himself but Hattie has dreams of going home but in order to do so she will have to earn her train fare and pay for her board and lodgings, no easy feat for a woman who has been pampered her entire life. Hattie, however, has an incredibly strong inner core and is determined to do this. There are a few things which could stop her from achieving this goal, the outlaws, the sheriff's deputy and the fact that she is falling in love with the sheriff.

This story did not lag at all it flowed beautifully and held my attention the whole way through - I loved the narration of this book it was so well done, each character was individually defined and there was never any confusion as to who was speaking - well done Meghan Kelly for the narration and Vivi Holt for the story.

I was given this audiobook as a gift and am voluntarily writing my review.

Hattie

If you’re looking for a clean historical romance with a few twists and turns, Hattie is the book for you. Hattie has traveled west to become a mail order bride after her family lost everything. She doesn’t even make it all the way to the small mining town when the troubles start.

I really enjoy Vivi Holt’s writing style. She really knows how to tell a great story!

Meghan Kelly is a fantastic narrator. She seamlessly goes from character to character and the emotions always come through.

Loving this series!

Hattie definitely gets an adventure when she is sent West to be a mail order bride. Heartbreaking and joyous, this story gives a peek at what it was like for some of these woman sent out to be mail order brides. Vivi Holt does a great job capturing some of the fears and struggles of being a woman in some of these untamed places. The fabulous Meghan Kelly makes the story come to life and gives an easy transition between characters. Can’t wait for the next one!

Laetitia

The story was quite enjoyable. I usually avoid these type of books.
I wanted to slap Hattie few times because she was quite silly sometimes.
Yes this book contained mild violence, but nothing too dramatic. Although it’s not the longest book it didn’t feel short.

I received this book for review purposes.
