Publisher's summary

A beautiful woman stands by the side of the road, barefoot and bleeding, a child in her arms. Someone just tried to kill her, but she wouldn't recognize him if she saw his face. She doesn't even remember her own name.

A suburban cop surveys a kitchen in disarray - a woman and child missing, a chilling note. This crime scene is unlike any he has ever seen.

The man who calls himself Gideon waits and plans. He sees himself as a destroyer of evil, one who rids the world of abominations. He has already killed five. He will kill again.

And somewhere in the wilderness, in a secret geocache near where the wild swans gather, lies the unspeakable clue that links them all together.

Michigan's rugged and beautiful Upper Peninsula is the setting for this absorbing tale of love and loss, beauty and terror, grievous sins and second chances. A deftly woven thriller from the best-selling author of the Rock Harbor novels.

Previously published as Abomination.

Mispronunciations of places.

This is the 4th book I’ve listened to of Colleen Cobles. I love the stories. However after listening to the narrator mispronounce multiple names of towns as well as the mackinaw bridge for the fourth book I had to write a review. I would have thought some research went into preparing to narrate a book for the masses. I am very disappointed with the lack of preparation by this narrator. That being said the story is great and had me staying with her even after I had enough of the narrator.

I really wanted to like this book.
however, it left me hanging with lots of unanswered stories.

Gripping...

I felt this was a very well-written novel. For some, it may be a story too graphically written. Yet, for others, it will be a gripping mystery that keeps one unable to stop listening. There are no graphic sexual accounts and no foul language...very clean in that respect...but it is a mystery with murder and accounts of how depraved man can become when unforgiveness is given full reign. I dont feel this is a book for those who are deeply disturbed by violence and brutality. If you are inclined to reading a murder mystery and delving into the minds of those who go down a path of revenge and gross misinterpretation of scripture ... I feel you would become engrossed in this book.
