Publisher's summary

Sometimes, to be yourself, you have to become someone else.

Thomasina Miller knew from a young age she wasn't like other girls. She didn't want to be a rancher's wife, so she makes the harrowing decision to leave all she's known, risking everything for the chance to choose her own fate in life. Now going by "Thomas", she realizes hiding her identity is a rather small price to pay for the freedom to live her own life and the Klondike Gold Rush is the perfect opportunity to help fund her endeavor.

Rachel Harkes knew that marrying Roy would be her ticket out of her small town in Kansas. Two years into their marriage and still looking for more adventure, Roy decides they should try their luck and join the Klondike Gold Rush.

When tragedy strikes and Thomas and Rachel are brought together at the top of the world in the unforgiving, arduous search for gold, can Thomas navigate her relationship with Rachel without revealing her secret? Will Rachel reconcile what she's known with the new, seemingly overwhelming reality she now finds herself in?

Audio seemed off

I was curious how this story would translate since I first read it when it was a WayHaught fanfic so still had the names and what the characters look/sound like in my head. But it was still amazing. The amount of research and work the author put into this story is just wonderful.

I did have some issues with the audio and I don’t know if it was just my download or how it was recorded. At times the sound quality and volume changed like a few lines were added in after the fact. Sort of took me out of the story when it happened. But it was still well worth the purchase.

WayHaught in a book?

Really enjoyed this story, love the old west genre as well. Sounds a LOT like a WayHaught story...lots of Wynonna Earp Easter eggs in there, made me enjoy it that much more! And Jen Tidwell, yay!

Heartfelt Slow Burn

Riveting historical tale about the Yukon Gold Rush days for Thomas & Rachel and how their lives become intertwined. Thomas is a woman, living as a man unlike any other tackling this life changing journey. While Rachel shows the hardships and toughness of what it was like to live as a woman during those times. Hearing all of the emotions just pulls you even more into this gripping story. Good narration and flow along with having distinct voices for supportive secondary characters. I truly fell in love with this debut and can't wait for more from Luci Dreamer!

Historical romance

This story was an amazing adventure to listen to. Thomas and Rachel meet while both are traveling to the Klondike to search for gold. I really learned about the perils that they had to face during their journey. The two grow closer each day. Their friends Jack and Bill are great characters as well as Rachel’s sister Charlotte. Well read by the narrator. There is some background noise but the story is so gripping that I could overlook it. I hope book 2 will be out soon. I highly recommend this audiobook.

wonderful period piece about love and courage

I had read this book earlier this year and was delighted to see it come available as a audio production. Jen Tidwell did a great job bringing the story to life. Luci Dreamer did a wonderful job creating a story about couagous women who loved adventure, willing to take risks for a once in a lifetime love. highly recommend this book and audio production. Thank you Luci and Jen

I love historical novels about lesbian living in the 1800

As a teen in the 1960 I remember the young lesbians telling me the rules about wearing female attire. If they were caught wearing men’s clothes they would be arrested and put in juvenile hall. Rachel and Thomas lived in an extremely dangerous time for their love and yet they persevered. A historical novel like this one is such a great reminder. Goddess knows I wouldn’t hear about this anywhere else. I loved the characters, narration, and storyline.

Loved it !

It was great to listen to Thomas and Rachel’s story after reading the book. A beautifully written F/F historical Fiction! The narration made the book even more enjoyable. I am looking forward to listening to book 2!

It’s good

I’d been debating on this title for a while now and finally gave it a chance.

The story itself is good. I do like the build up between the two MCs and how they came together but after that…kinda dragged on a bit. I almost think this would be better in just book form vs audiobook. But that might’ve had something to do with the narrator.

I was not a fan of the airy almost too girlish way Rachel was voiced. Thomas had a great voice, so that was good but in the beginning I really couldn’t stand the voice used for Rachel. Over time I sorta got used to it but it just didn’t do it for me. And the cadence of how she speaks was a mix of slow and drawn out or almost abrupt (but I kinda wonder if that’s more from editing than anything).

So yeah. Story was cute. Narrator isn’t bad but not my favorite. Would still recommend though if you like gender-bending historical sapphic romances.

Great book, not the best narrator but tolerable

Love this story. Very well done and full of history and rich detail. The narrator was jarring and a little grungy at first with some of the voices but I powered through it and got used to it after awhile.

Engaging historical romance

This story was well written and the characters well developed and likeable. I love this series and can't wait for the next book to be released. Jen Tidwell did an excellent job with the voices for the different characters. I hope to hear more stories narrated by her.
