About this listen
This classic novel from Debbie Macomber explores the tender, intimate joys of love and family.
A driven workaholic, CEO Caasi Crane has sacrificed all semblance of a personal life to build a West Coast hotel empire. But business as usual will never be the same when the man Caasi trusts with all her heart abruptly resigns. Having to replace her top manager isn’t the end of the world - or at least it shouldn’t feel like it. So why does it hurt so much to lose him?
Blake Sherrill is excellent at his job, and he knows it. But when it comes to Caasi, the time has come to cut his losses. Ironically, now that he’s ready to walk away from the woman he cares for, he gets what he’s wanted all along: Caasi’s undivided attention. Dragging her into his family’s frenzy of potlucks, weddings, and bouncing babies, Blake tries to teach an isolated career woman about the world outside her lonely penthouse - and a love that’s strong enough last a lifetime.

Joan Sample is not living the life she expected. Now a widow and an empty-nester, she has become by her own admission something of a recluse. But after another birthday spent alone, she is finally inclined to listen to her sister, who has been begging Joan to reengage with the world. Story
A new beginning in charming Oceanside, Washington, is exactly what Hope Godwin needs after the death of her twin brother. There are plenty of distractions, like her cozy cottage with the slightly nosy landlords next door, and a brewing drama among her students at the local high school. Even having settled quickly into the community, Hope still feels something is still missing. That is, until her landlords convince her to volunteer at their animal shelter. There she meets Shadow, a rescue dog that everyone has given up on. But true to her name, Hope believes he’s worth saving.

Story
Back in their college days, Gretchen Wise had been engaged to a top law student. Carol Furness, head cheerleader, had said yes to the school’s football hero. And Maddie Cobain was the girl who’d fallen for a professor. Now the three of them gather around a popular fountain on the college grounds. This fountain was where lovers met, where promises were made...and broken. So it’s fitting that Gretchen, Carol and Maddie sit here to share their stories of betrayal and, yes, revenge.

Story
Two classic stories of finding love where you least expect it! Marriage Wanted: As far as Nash Davenport's concerned, marriage isn't shelter from the storm - it is the storm. He's a divorce attorney, himself divorced, who believes no married couple can live up to their wedding vows. My Hero: Would-be romance writer Bailey York has already failed twice at love. She thinks men are wonderful to read and write about, but that's it. Which is probably why she has such difficulty creating a hero for her novel. What she needs is a real-life example.

Dated
I honestly thought when I was listening to this book, that it had to of been written in the very early to middle 1970s. I was rather surprised when I looked it up and all I could find was copyright 2015. It was very painful to listen to. I love Debbie’s writing normally and I’m glad she doesn’t write like this anymore.

Abusive and Baby Crazy
The narrator did a great job. The problem with this book is Blake is continually insulting Caasi, they fight, and she still wants him. Every insult he gives her she acts like it was her fault. That’s an abusive relationship. Blake keeps getting mad that she doesn’t know he likes her when HE NEVER TOLD HER!!! He just keeps picking fights.
The other problem I had was how baby crazy this book was. It made it sound like the goal of life is to become pregnant. It was written in a way that made the topic as simple as “I want a puppy”. No thought into what kids actually need and the time they take. And the fact that her friends keep pushing that idea...

POTENTIALLY ABUSIVE PARTNER PURSUED RELENTLESSLY
Rich and independent female wishes for something more then business success and independence. She wants home and family and children. But instead ends up pursuing relentlessly a man who repeatedly treats her like trash and is only nice to her when she initiates physical intimacy. It is a counselor's nightmare because this occurs so often in real life. I did turn off the book when it came to a bedroom scene that I did not want to listen through. However, undoubtably the author will at the end of the book allow the couple to come together and the abusive man will suddenly become kind and gentle and their relationship will work out. In real life that is not so. Someone who treats you like trash every time you are together except when you are being physically intimate, and threatens to break down your door to get into your apartment if you try to keep him out is not going to suddenly be a kind and gentle and patient spouse. A very hard listen and I did not finish with 2 hours left to go.

Seriously?
Not a very empowering story for women. The male lead is a verbally abusive jerk yet she keeps going back for more. Women can be professional and still have some self respect.
