About this listen

Michelle Cabot has inherited her father's Florida cattle ranch and a mountain of debt. To make matters worse, a huge chunk of that debt is owed to the neighboring rancher, her nemesis, John Rafferty.

Nothing shocks Rafferty more than discovering that the spoiled, pampered rich girl he once despised is painstakingly trying to run the Cabot ranch herself, working the land with desperation - the only thing she has left. He likes this new Michelle and decides to make her his woman. What he doesn't know is that underneath Michelle's cool, polished facade lies heartache, secrets, and the raw determination to live life as her own woman. But Rafferty isn't about to take no for an answer.

good series

Linda Howard has always been one of my favorite Authors, I am happy so many of her books are being released in ebook and unabridged audio books. I tried reading my paperbacks from earlier days, but my eyes are not 2020 anymore and I found that the paperback typesetting was way to small for me to be able to see without a magnifying glass. haha. I enjoyed John's story, I listened to the whole story in one sitting, I do recommend reading or listening to this series in the order in which they were written, because there are some spoilers if read out of order.

Linda Howard /love

Just because you think you know some doesn't mean you do. Some times it is the way you look

Loved it!

I think I really liked that the hero had a misconception about the heroine. He thought she was a spoiled brat who seduced men for fun. He was still drawn to her despite not having a good opinion of her. When he finally gave himself permission to pursue her, he was almost obsessed. He despised her spoiled persona and yet he wanted to be the one to spoil her. It made it way more enjoyable when he slowly learned she was actually a good person and someone he admired. I will be reading this one again.

One of my all time Favorite books....

With the WORST narration, ever!!! Such a shame,I bought the audiobook because I have read, and re=read this book several times, but the narration was dry and mechanical, almost like computer narration. It really ruined the experience for me.. I urge anyone reading this review to READ the book, and SKIP the narration!!

Heartbreaker

I read this book originally years ago. It is still as good now as it was then. The audible version is excellent. Great narration.

Earbreaker!

I usually enjoy Howard’s stories,as I did this one But the narrator was SO bad the story lost its meaning!! No emotion- none ! There are so many wonderful narrators out there-even the new ,just starting out, & this is the one Linda chose!! Very disappointing.

Another great Linda Howard story

Don’t let the bad review about narrator’s rendition of a male voice keep you from reading story. It’s too good of a story. The narration gets better as you get into story.

Good book!

I took a chance on purchasing this book and I have to say I'm glad I did. I'm familiar with author Linda Howard but only read a couple of her books. This story was good. It kept me interested throughout and provided not only a love story but a bit of a thiller. I only wish there was an epilogue.

1987 Classic

If you are a long time fan of Ms Howard as I am, then finally getting to listen to this classic that I read when it was first published, has been a thrill. YES, the dialogue is dated and very much of the ‘80’s chauvinistic view point so reviewers who are not familiar with this, BEWARE.
Ms Howard’s After the Night is one of her all time BEST classic books to read. If you listen to this book, take note of John’s body description and if you have the pleasure of listening to After The Night, narrated by the great Natalie Ross, you will see how Ms Howard made both characters very similar in stature and ALSO added great tenderness to their bad boy persona.
I am unfamiliar with this narrator, as this was an outside audio publishing group. She is not bad on the male delivery so I am ok with her, but not so sure I would seek more of her work. However, I have to be careful of lessons learned Eg narrator Angela Dawe, who I was not so nuts about on Julie Garwoods’ not to be missed Sweet Talk. I now own over 100 of her reads as her male voice and children’s voices are my top fave.
I do use 1.25x speed to match the adventure.
Were my comments of help?
