About this listen

When one of four potential claimants to the title of Lord Dalrymple dies a sudden, nasty death, the question on everyone's mind is, "was it murder?"

In the late 1920s in England, the Honorable Daisy Dalrymple Fletcher is recruited to help her cousin Edgar - i.e. the Lord Dalrymple. About to turn 50, Lord Dalrymple decides it is time to find out who would be the heir to the viscountcy. With the help of the family lawyer, who advertises Empire-wide, they have come up with four potential claimants. For his fiftieth birthday, Edgar invites those would-be heirs - with Daisy and the rest of the family - to Fairacres, the family estate.

In the meantime, Daisy is asked to be the family's representative at the lawyer's interviews with the claimants. Those four are a hotelier from Scarborough, a diamond merchant from South Africa, a young mixed-raced boy from Trinidad, and a sailor from Jamaica. However, according to his very pregnant wife, the sailor has gone missing.

Daisy and Alec must uncover a conspiracy if they are going to stop the killing in the latest from the accomplished master of the genre, Carola Dunn.

Always Fun!

Outstanding voice performance. I will listen to a chapter twice just to hear the inflection of each character’s personality! The translation is so smooth. Never do you think ONE person is narrating. An engaging story to keep you thinking.

Who is killing the possible heirs?

When there is no known male heir, what do you do? You advertise!
So a bunch of people show up saying they have records proving they are the rightful heir.
We will find out who it is at a birthday party given by the now heir, with help of identification by a female relative, and his lawyer.
Who will make it to that date ? Is the heir apparent going to be able to claim his inheritance? Since one by one they are being attacked or murdered this may be impossible.

Heirs of the Body

Totally enjoyed the accent of the narrator!
Her voice added to the quality of the story.
For those who do not understand accents or have problems with accents, there could be a problem. But an English story placed in old England really needs that kind of an accent!
I love these stories as although they are sort of formula but always delightful in their approach to the mystery and the solving of the problems to get to the bad guys.
Each character is fully filled out so that they become friends or friendamies as the case may be.
I can certainly pass these books on to my girl friends and grandchildren.
No profanity or graphic sexual content.
Love the author!

Enjoyable & Satisfying

An entirely satisfactory Daisy Dalrymple mystery, in the classic country house murder vane. Lucy Raynor does her usual good job of interpreting it.

Daisy mystery solver.

Such an antiquated system from a modern point of view but a very entertaining story set in the time.
Daisy is such a likeable character and tactfully navigates through the facts like a champ.
Well narrated.

Enjoyed Except For...

Voice used for Belinda was exceptionally annoying for a girl of her age. Story and voiceover was good overall.

My favorite so far!

I hate that this one is so near the end of the series but really enjoyed! Guess that just means they get better and better.
