Being happy without being perfect

There are a lot of areas in my life where I strive for perfectionism and as I get older, I realize that I need to relax and start accepting some imperfections so I don't stress out as much. It's amazing how much self-imposed pressure we put on ourselves yet when you look around, no one else is putting that same pressure on you. This book is great about really defining what perfectionism looks like and debunking what we think perfectionism might be. I liked the chapter about cultivating a growth mindset. It moves beyond just theories and instead, the author gives you practical steps to help move you forward so that you can start to celebrate your small wins which turn into big wins.

Reviewing how society's perception of success is contributing to a rise in perfectionism was right on point. There are so many things that are in our faces all the time about how great others are doing how we should look what's popular, and what's not. It's everywhere even if you're not trying to look.

Learning to become comfortable with ourselves to remove the pressure is something I am working on each day. If you are someone like me who consistently pressures themselves and is also consistently disappointed, get this book.

I loved the easy-to-follow exercises, especially the quick 10-minute self-compassion ones. Real-life examples make it relatable, and the book covers not-so-obvious aspects of perfectionism.

It's already making a positive impact on my mindset. If you want practical tools for a happier life, this audiobook is a must-listen!

Never thought of myself as a perfectionist...

Such an interesting listen. My husband recommended (probably because he sees these tendencies in me) this and I laughed, but it was an eye-opener. The chapter that impacted me most was the High Cost of Perfectionism. The behaviors, consequences, and life situations discussed in this chapter were always viewed by me as bad luck. In reality, they are natural results of my own perfectionist behaviors. This was revolutionary for me. It will take some time to really absorb all the info here, I will listen again in a few months. It would have been nice to have a PDF version with the audio.
