About this listen

“I have looked across the arc of my dreams and seen Coel’s death in all 360 degrees of it. The circle of his destiny shall tighten like a noose upon him in less than one of your years...”

Coel’s journey eastward with the sorcerer Reza Walladid earned him the wrath of the Hobgoblin Hordes' the Lord of the Assassins. The terrible secret he discovered there could turn humanity against him, yet now it must be revealed. Now nation after nation falls before the Horde’s inexorable march west, either slaughtered and eaten in battle or accepting the Horde’s terrifying terms of surrender. In every shadow, Assassin daggers lurk.

Once again Coel must ride east, into the teeth of the invasion with a band of heroes upon a suicide mission. They are a gesture, unsanctioned by Church or King. With no chance of victory, there is one forlorn gift they might give the failing west.

The most terrifying thing of all. Hope.

Surrounded by enemies on all sides, once again Coel finds his only refuge is honor. Once again, Coel finds there is only one path to follow. The Heroes Road.

It just gets better and better.

This had me with a tear rolling down my cheek and then cracking up moments later. Books just don’t do that to me. Amazing story, amazing voice acting. Amazing production.

It made me weep

How much more can a man take, i have read so many stories and i have never seen a main character be tortured and destroyed this much and faced so much boundless loss. There were moments that i was listening and cursing chuck rogers for how evil he was to create such a story. When a book makes u react with such passion you have to admit that the book is good

An over the top fun hero tale

The story doesn’t break any new ground or anything, but it is a fun read for sure. The narration is incredible and brought a huge smile to my face many times. I just imagine how many times the narrators busted up laughing during the tantric healing part was going on. It must have been many, many takes to get it right! Well done narrators! I LMAO during that part. If you are looking for a ribald, over the top hero quest story to entertain you for 17 hours, this story would be an excellent option for you.

Good, but depressing. May not finish series.

The cast is amazing and world as well, but the author seems to enjoy kicking Cole in the teeth whenever possible. I disagree utterly with one point that pulled the rug out from under him after a series of struggles. Pointless pain, character degradation and frankly lazy writing on Chuck's part. I gave it 3 stars because so much is well crafted, but I will admit extreme disdain for some of the plot moves made in this one. Bad form Chucko.

I loved Volume 1 but this one is depressing

So I loved Volume 1. It was a very entertaining book. With a happy ending. I got to say though. Chuck Rodgers must hate the character Cole. Never have I ever listened to or read a book that punishes the main character so much. The guy has been through nothing but pain. Its so depressing that it literally brings me down. I am having a hard finishing this book now. I don't know if I want to finish this book now. I just know Cole will probably fall in love with another woman only for Chuck Rodgers to do another horrible thing to do him. It's good storytelling to get me to really like Cole and make me feel this way. I will give Chuck credit on that. At the same time I just can't get into a book that punishes the main character as bad as Chuck does to Cole.
