About this listen

After taking command of a carrier strike group deployed to the Mediterranean, Greek and Turkish tensions reach the boiling point when ships are lost under mysterious circumstances. With Flip's strike group in the region, Russia flexes its muscle, first with airpower, then with a naval deployment the volume of which the world had not seen since the Russo-Japanese War to deny the West use of the North Atlantic. Tasked by Washington to confront the onslaught, Flip must maneuver his forces to avoid detection and be in position to strike first when the order comes. When overhead sensors are denied, the action reverts to a traditional detect-to-engage slugfest in three-domains, a high-end fight at sea between two nuclear-armed navies that holds Europe and North America at risk.

Critic reviews

"Suit up, strap in, and hold on. Equal parts fuel and adrenaline, you are about to be catapulted into a high-g world of modern aerial combat. Aviation action-adventure has a master, and his name is Kevin Miller." Jeff Edwards, author of Steel Wind

"Flip Wilson is back! Kevin Miller delivers again in his latest carrier aviation epic with our new favorite hero. If you loved the Raven One trilogy, you won't be able to put High End down. Mission accomplished!" Vincent Aiello, host of The Fighter Pilot Podcast

High End is a sweeping saga of today's warfare on the high seas that plunges readers into the adrenaline-fueled world of carrier pilots and naval combat. The catapult fires on page one and the afterburners stay lit to the end. I’ll read anything Kevin Miller writes!” Jack Stewart, retired Navy fighter pilot and bestselling author of Unknown Rider, a Battle Born Thriller

This installment is quite the improvement from the last three. It was great to catch up with past characters that are more than just cameos. I was a concerned about how the story transitioned. We went from a rogue operative nearly triggering a war between countries with a generations-long beef to focusing on a near-peer deciding that any nation that chooses to support a nation that is seen as culturally, ethically, and politically inferior should be punished.

I was very impressed with how the interpersonal and intrapersonal conflicts were detailed and carefully executed by Captain Miller. As I am a civilian with ZERO military or DoD affiliation, it made it much easier to continue to invest in the story.

(TRIGGER WARNING FOR SOME) Being a Black man myself, I must give even more kudos to Captain Miller for how he has written Rear Admiral (lower half) James “Flip” Wilson this far. I very much enjoy how the character is written and how the stories so far focused more of his character, how he is conscious of the time/place and how he handles situations while understanding that even if he does everything right, he is either lauded as the hero, first to be blamed, or in some cases, disrespectfully underestimated. Flip is fluid in his tactics, but firm in his resolve to 1) get the job done and 2) bring everyone home.

Finally, it was great to hear the local
Jacksonville, Florida legend Sam Kouvaris being the narrator. Mr. Kouvaris gave maximum effort for this book. Yeah sure, he had some stumbles here and there. But the added sound effects in later chapters was a surprising and welcome addition to this performance. Mr. Kouvaris gets 500/5 stars for taking the risk and, in my book, paid off in dividends.

To Captain Miller: Sir, with all due respect, please have Mr. Kouvaris do your next book as soon as the ink dries.

To Mr. Kouvaris: Duuuuvvvvaaaalllll!!! Great job here sir! The addition of sound effects was incredible. Please do it for your next entry in this series.

Gentlemen, I look forward to your next adventure. Until we meet again.

Happy Reader Actual, out here.

I thought the story was great. However, the audio narrator left alot to be desired and don't think it was worth the $24

This book is amazing! I loved the story and the excitement of the book. A must read! The only thing I didn’t like is the narrator. He doesn’t do the book justice. He didn’t even try to do different accents. The original narrator on Raven One is the best of this series.
I can’t wait for the next book! Thank you for your Service Captain!

Exhilarating

Great Story… poor narration… felt like i was listening to a 2id grade teacher reading a kids book, it was hard to determine the difference in the characters… they all sounded the same… a majority of it unemotional… very disappointing again great follow up to the rest of the series Thank Kevin !!!

disappointed in the narrator…

I’ve listened to all of Kevin Millers books. I was super excited for the latest release. Story is original and reveals the burden of command in a new light. The narrator has a good voice but had no style, energy, or engagement with the listener. I felt like I was listening to uncle read out loud in the kitchen. Really really wanted to get into this book, but the narrator kept letting it down.
