About this listen

On the run from the wrathful Prince of Wales, Jack Haines, Earl of Lambourne, is taken prisoner by a Highland laird who makes him an unusual offer: if Jack handfasts his niece, then his life will be spared. The old Highland custom – a marriage lasting only a year and a day, unless both partners agree to make it a lifelong vow – sounds preferable to Jack to being dragged to London in chains, and when he meets lovely Lizzie Beal, his dilemma starts to seem positively enjoyable. Until the hellion vents her fury…on him!

Detesting the scandalous match that will end all her chances of making a respectable marriage, Lizzie can’t abide living intimately with a fugitive nobleman bent on seducing her and then running off. But in teaching her the pleasures of a wife’s duties, Jack sparks within them both a passion that will make him wish he could stay with Lizzie for much longer than a year and a day.

tears and smiles abound

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would. Why? Because it was one of those books that you want to turn off and throw one minute... laugh the next, cry again and then cheer the next. ... what is better then that?

What was one of the most memorable moments of Highland Scandal?

This question is why I hate to read reviews since it has to be a spoiler if answered honestly. I'll say this... among all the moments that I feel are memorable my favorite is the moment when you realize that there's laughter in the most serious moment and you feel like you're in on the joke. ...

Have you listened to any of Anne Flosnik’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to many of the books that she has narrated and altho I usually give her great reviews I have to say that in actuality her voices are limited and I quite often have to think twice about who is speaking since their is not enough, if any, distinction between the characters. All in all still a good listen!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Several! But I will not write a s spoiler. See for yourself!

Any additional comments?

I think this one is a definite yes... Creditworthiness. .. a 4 on the 1 to 5 scale. Some verrrry steamy moments, as all good Highland novels are supposed to have...

Very good

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have recommended this and many other of the audio books to friends and family I dont have a lot of time for reading but totally enjoy the performance of audio books while driving to and from work as my drive is almost an hour each way. If you enjoy a good love story and a good mystery then this is a great series to listen to.

What did you like best about this story?

It was entertaining and performed very well.

Which scene was your favorite?

The hat falling over the cliff.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Find love and mystery in the Scottish Highlands as you follow 2 people from different worlds trying to survive threats from the Royal Family and their own family.

EXCELLENT!!!

Highland Scandal grabbed my attention from the first.

It starts out with a mystery of why a Highland Laird would force his niece to become handfast with an Earl on the lamb from the Prince of Wales....the Prince of Wales has put a bounty on the Earl's head, and the Laird gives him a choice, become handfast to his niece for a year and a day, or be handed over to be hanged.

It's a well written story, and although there are romantic scenes, it's not 1/2 filled with them like many books.

It's as if you're transported into the Highlands of Scotland by Anne Flosnik's talented narration.

I normally like Julia London books, but the first part of this book was tough to get through. Lizzie is mean, nasty, rude, completely intollerable for well over half the book. It is hard to read a romance book with the herroine being such a horrible person. I understand the cat and mouse game, but why would Jack fall in love with her when she treats him so bad? I found myself skipping through chapters just trying to find some place she is nice to him to justify his feelings. While I like a bit of mystery and scandal, for me the love affair isn't believable because no one would chase after a person who treats them like a lepper.

Narrator was horrible!

This book might have been better if narrated by someone else. Not worth the credit!
