Publisher's summary

Scotland, 1415...

The flame-haired virago bearing down on Ross MacKenna was far too shapely to be a seasoned warrior, but she was just as deadly. As she engaged him on the battlefield, Ross knew her for a MacKay, long-time enemies of his clan. What he didn’t know was that she would soon be his wife, given to him by her father in a desperate effort to end generations of feuding. The only problem was that of all her family, Gillian MacKay was the least willing to make peace. Her fiery temper challenged his mastery. Both politics and pride demanded that he tame her, but he would do it his way - with a seduction that would sweep away her defenses, and win her heart.

Scottish Characters 1420 Ya Kin? SWOON

The cover picture is awful. Not at all what Laird Ross McKenna would look like.
The reason I listen to audio books is because of fabulous narrators and performers, not just "readers."

Simon's voices for all the characters are awesome and his Scotsmen voices are to die for! Low and growly, sensual and confident. The story was good with the usual twists and turns. The defiant warrior lass and her Laird are married to end a clan feud.

This is a true MAN'S voice. Only man better is Derek Perkins, he's the best.
I don't like Tim Campbell or Anthony Ferguson. But I really like Simon. Aye Lassie, it's worth the credit.

Wonderful!

Great read ! Strong Laird , equally ferocious lady. Swordplay, deception and redemption. Really good narration. Listened to on Audible.

Highland Warrior

Good book. There are a couple of spots that the plot moves a little slower than I normally would have liked but over all a good romance.

Alot of fan service but still a good read

Lots of steamy scenes(personally I prefer more plot or have the scenes be meaningful to the plot but there are noticibly many so if you like that here is the book for you) and frustrations with the leads (I mean
how many times can you make the same mistake) but overall an above average read.

Overall 3.75

This story could have been really really good, but the trust issues with the main characters was ridiculously too much.

Couldn't finish - Great Narrator, silly story

Made it through the first 8 hours and just couldn't take any more. It seems like most of the book is just the main characters not believing each other and doubting their relationship. Plot was predictable and not exciting. Everyone keeps brushing off the seer, even though it becomes clear that she can see the future. And so then they keep getting in trouble because they didn't listen. I like a sexy Highlander story, but even the sexy times are not that sexy because the main characters cannot trust each other.

Ok sex was great but.... no trust

This story could have put a little effort in relationship... I love a sexy love scene but that's all they had, needed to pull story along with the sex scene. the ending did come together so that's why I gave it 2 stars.

Rape sets a bad tone for romance

The narrator was great, but that's about it. The characters lacked depth or any building of a relationship. The book was about twice as long as it needed to be. Above all, the relationship starts out with the female lead being held down and forced into sex by the male lead, with no apology or regret. This theme continues with the male character forcing sex on her after she has said no very clearly. There was a big disconnect for me in the fact that she enjoyed this after a while and then fell in love with him, despite him being a faithless a## until the last 10 pages on top of being her rapist. Ish.

Ridiculous! Juvenile. Second and last time I will ever read this author.

Terrible! The characters and their thought processes are juvenile and the writing is ideal for preteens (up until you get to the sex scenes which is more appropriate for a much older reader - even those were sex for the mere sake of sex, like there had to be some somewhere so let’s put it right HERE in the book with no rhyme or reason). The characters ask questions that any reader over the age of 10 can answer - Except for the characters themselves apparently. This dialog is done in order to move along the plot with no depth to the characters themselves. When the characters ask questions such as “think that I am stupid?“ I found myself constantly responding with definitive “yes”! This is my second book by the same writer (purchased by mistake because I just read the summary without looking at the author). Though this book is much better than the last one, I still feel myself constantly rolling my eyes.

Stupid main characters and idiot plot

I enjoy the narration but the story leaves much to be desired. In addition to the author’s usual inclusion of gratuitous sex scenes, both MCs are dumb and dumber, as the author uses their contrived stupidity and complete lack of common sense and ability to strategize to further the plot. How can one cheer for either of them when the whole story reeks of farce? None of the author’s heroines are rocket scientists but this one takes the cake. She runs headlong into trouble thinking to use her sword to settle any dispute without the need for anyone else's assistance. She does this time and again. If that wasn't enough, she can't put two and two together even when everything is spelled out. In fact, the ambitious, murderous OW has more character. The hero is no great shakes either, as he never really thinks much beyond the surface, the proverbial more brawn than brain muscleman. In this story the evil doers are cleverer and more interesting than the H and h for a dumber pair does not exist.

This one could barely be called a historical romance because there’s no historical context whatsoever, other than a bunch of purported highland clansmen running around feuding with their neighbors.
