Editorial reviews

One early and seven later Sherlock Holmes adventures are collected here: "The Adventure of Wisteria Lodge," "The Adventure of the Cardboard Box," "The Adventure of the Red Circle," "The Adventure of the Bruce-Partington Plans," "The Adventure of the Dying Detective," "The Disappearance of Lady Frances Carfax," "The Adventure of the Devil's Foot," and the title story, "His Last Bow." Narrator Tom Whitworth reflects Holmes's calm, confident demeanor, adding controlled excitement only at appropriate climatic moments.

This is the sixth Sherlock Holmes novel I've listened to this month and my least favorite. The narrator dramatizes the character's voices so that it sounds like you're listening to a play. I much prefer to hear a book read so that the voices create a suspension of disbelief.

Voice makes suspension of disbelief difficult.
