About this listen

Escaping to a world of fantasy is something we all do. Be it a good book, a movie, or whacking your friends with foam bats, we all have a way to release from the day-to-day drive. But sometimes playtime turns into something more.

He would have ridden in on a white horse.

Raine is a big fan of the medieval ages. He spends most of his weekends at a castle encouraging others to act out their swords-and-sorcery dreams. But when a curious soldier walks into his life, the usually confident and creative single dad finds himself at a loss. And maybe just a little bit in awe.

Quinn is deeply intrigued by Lochmire Castle’s owner and daughter. Having always wanted a family, he can’t help but imagine the possibilities. But a long-past tragedy keeps him from moving forward, one that he isn’t ready to reveal to anyone.

Raine is stressed beyond belief when his creative life takes a turn for the rowdy. Can Quinn help him rub off a few of his worries? Or will Raine's new knight fall short?

His Paladin is a gay romance audiobook intended for adults only. Like any good fantasy, we promise they’ll live happily ever after. But what will it take to get there?

SOMETIMES FANTASY BECOMES REALITY

I give this story 3.5 stars, narration 5 stars.
A M/M romance with a very clear statement of patience on the part of Xander Quinn towards his new boyfriend, Raine Meyer, who doesn’t know how to ask for help and comes across as unstable until you find out why. Even though this is a M/M romance, I was a little confused as both men had been with women before, one had been married and the other had a child. No explanation as to how or why they engaged in a M/M relationship. This left me a little confused. The context of the story was strong, but not delivered as well as I thought it could be.

The narration of this story is great. I liked the way the narrator changed voices for the different characters. That way, I could tell who was saying what.

A Huge Undertaking

His Paladin is the story of a man who's venue was chosen to host The Final Battle. His excitement leads him to stress over making sure everything is authentic and perfect. He becomes a micromanager, going behind his staff to redo the task. Just imagine trying to get everything up and running, by yourself, for your local Renaissance Festival. If anyone needs a Paladin, it's this guy.

Narrator J. Bordeaux brings the frustration, stress, and concern the various characters display in this busy story.

Something different....something good.

This was an enjoyable story. The narrator did a great job with the characters. Although one of the MC, Raine, was way over the top for me, the other MC, Quinn, balanced him quite well. I enjoyed hearing about the fantasy D&D world. It makes me want to find a place like Lockmaire Castle.

A great read!

Wow, what an unusual story with a different type of theme. It's the first time for that type of story for me but would read another.

A Fantasy Love!!!

***I received a free review copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving a review***

This was my first time reading/listening to anything by J.P. Oliver and I have to say it was a really enjoyable experience. I’ll be looking forward to enjoying more of his books. I also have to say that the narrator J. Bordeaux’s voice and tempo with the book were enjoyable as well. Having just recently started to listen to audiobooks and more than a few of the narrator’s voices have just killed my listening enjoyment of a book for me. I would recommend this book and the audio to anyone looking for a sweet slow m/m romance. The story left me with a nice warm and fuzzy feeling that set a great mood for the rest of my day.

Quinn is a soldier and widower who hasn’t been able to move forward with his life after his great loss. Raine is a single father with a very rambunctious daughter named Nicole better known as Princess Elora ruler of Lochmire. These two men are so different but they make a deep connection upon meeting for the first time. While Quinn’s life is routine and order Raines is fantasy, sorcery, knights and a host of other fantastical beings. Raine introduces Quinn to the lifestyle of LARPing – noun: a type of role-playing game. An upcoming major event is going to be held at Raines place of business Lochmire and it’s going to need Raine’s total focus. His perfectionist ways are causing him to create stress not only for himself but for others as well with his micromanaging.

Will this event tear apart Quinn and Raine’s budding romance? Will Raine see Quinn as his very own - Paladin – noun: any determined advocate or defender of a noble cause? Will the main event go without a hitch despite Raine’s personal control issues? Read for yourself this story about two men fighting their various issues to rescue each other for their chance at a HEA.

Escape and Relax

3.5 Blue Roses
3.5 Blue Flames

Narrator J. Bordeaux brought a beautiful short romance to life. His voice is easy to listen to and his ability to change his voice to accommodate different characters, made the experience extra enjoyable.

The plot was different and carried me away so I wished at times I could also go Larping.
I have one question: Where and who is Nicole's mom?
I rewinded three times, and I can not find the answer anywhere.
We know Rain is her biological dad as he sees his own attributes in her, but no mention of a mom? Was this MPREG?
But, then who's the other daddy?

The book overall was OK, listening to this while you lie on the beach and relax would make the escape to castles so much more special.
If you want to fall asleep with earbuds in, even better!

Happy Listening

Enjoyable quick listen

This is another great read J.P. Oliver, with developed characters. This is the story of Quinn and Raine. Quinn is in the army and has suffered a loss of his wife, while Raine is a single father to Nicole and owns Lochmire Castle, who copes by controlling everything he can. I love Nicole character and the relationship she had with her father was adorable. She was so accepting of her dad's new relationship with another man. Nicole’s sweet honesty makes the adults see the situation in another light. Raine is a control freak and a little bratty, his actions end up causing more problems; however, Quinn steps up to save the day. While Quinn learns to love again, Raine learns he couldn't control everything and accepting help doesn’t make him weak. The narration was very well done.

Fun Listen

This is a quick fun listen and to me learning about LARPing was interesting. It's a bit Angsty but overall short and sweet Bordeaux does a good job with the narration.

His Paladin

Raine along with his 7 year old daughter Nicole, run a "Castle" for role paying or LARPing for fantasy play with knights and mages complete with assorted weapons and armor. Raine has invested alot to make the castle a success.
Quinn job with the military is at the supple depot for the base. He has 3 soldiers working for him and they all work well together and are very organized. Quinn's wife died and he still hasn't gotten over it. He hasn't even unpacked yet. He invests most of his time working to keep his mind off of his dead wife. Quinn owes his guys a FUN DAY for all their hard work and he looks into the Castle and the fantasy play as a way to give his team a day of fun.
Both Raine and Quinn were with women previously, but they are so drawn to each other they can't help themselves. Raine finds out the castle in in the running for an event that could put it on the map for the LARPing community and he throws his all into preparing and running the event. During this time Raine becomes bossy, rude and a little bit of a jerk, but Quinn sticks with him anyway. I wanted to smack Raine until he got his act together.
It's a very enjoyable audiobook and it will make a fantastic addition to your Audible Library.

Great Book

This storyline for this book is great!!!! The book gives a point of view of a business owner. It also shows that teamwork helps most of the time. The person that did the voices for the characters did an amazing job.
