About this listen

Out-and-proud volunteer dance instructor, Reid Alexander, is a California boy accustomed to living in flashy luxury. He is less than thrilled upon inheriting his late grandfather’s South Dakota horse ranch. Yet, he must endure three months of cowboy hell before he can even consider selling the property. As the ranch foreman, Walker Corrigan’s entire life is Pine Ridge. When Reid arrives with cold-hearted plans to sell, Walker endeavors to endear the place to the younger man.

Reid is unprepared for the sudden attachment to Walker, the land, and - unbelievably enough - the horses.

Walker’s long-suffering heart takes an unexpected gallop straight toward Reid. Both men are on-board with exploring their relationship, and Reid discovers ranch ownership is more gratifying than he’d once imagined. But Reid is forced to reconsider his place on the ranch when threats put the property and employees in danger.

Menacing events call Reid’s integrity into question, and he considers saving everyone the hassle and throwing in the reins. But how can he leave when his heart now feels at home on Pine Ridge Ranch and in Walker’s arms?

Sweet and satisfying

This story is very sweet! I absolutely loved the change of heart of the main character and how ranch life stars growing in him (with a little help from romance!!!).
The plot was uncomplicated. Sure, it had its tense moments, but overall it's a low angst book perfect for relaxing!

Very enjoyable

Loved the story, characters, setting & the narration. Very much a "fish out of water" story with a sweet HEA.

MMy Thoughts and Review:
The Story was pure romantic fiction and I enjoyed it for what it was. A somewhat bratty young adult from the city comes to live on his deceased grandfather's ranch for three months. After such time he can decide to stay or sell. He hates everything about his situation including the smells around him, and cannot wait til his time in purgatory is up.

The ranch foreman loves the ranch and loved Reid's grandfather too. He finds himself with three months to persuade the jerk from the city not to sell the Jackson Ranch or he and a small group of people will be out of jobs and out of a place to live.

As with most stories there is a villain and this one is no different. So, there is a mystery to solve and a bit of a surprise from grandpa Jack to add to the HEA.

I absolutely fell in love with the narrator. Brad King was stupendous in bringing this story to life. I never thought anyone would move me the way Joel Leslie does, but Brad is now right there beside him. All the voices were well executed and filled with life. I loved it!!!💕

Not Great but Not Awful

This story was difficult for me to get into. It started off with Reid being a giant brat and city slicker. I got to where I could tolerate Reid but I never liked him. I adored Walker. He was a great guy with A LOT of patience to deal with Reid's attitude and baggage. I thought the other characters of the story were great but unfortunately not enough to save the story. The narration was the saving grace of the book. Brad King did an great job with the characters; giving them their own voices and emotions. His performance is what made listening to this book to the end bearable.

A City Boy & Cowboy Rancher Find Insta-Love

This was my first time hearing narrator Brad King, and his performance grew on me the longer I listened. I appreciated his range of distinct voices, including for the female characters (Norma especially), and his Southern twang was believable enough for my untrained ears. I also thought he captured Reid's youthful exuberance especially well.

Reid fully expects to sell his grandfather's horse ranch upon inheriting it, until he meets head ranch hand Walker. It's not long before insta-love sparks fly between the city boy and the older cowboy, and Reid has an easy change of heart about selling just as Walker captures his.

Being totally honest, I thought much of what's supposed to be playful flirting and dirty talk came off as cringy. Reid also comes across as over-the-top ridiculous at times, which I don't think was intentional, and I found him on the annoying side overall. Ultimately, though, he and Walker make a clearly smitten couple, brought together by close proximity and a common enemy if nothing else.

The main (and easily resolved) conflict at play was Reid's villainous P0S father causing trouble and trying to force Reid's hand in selling the ranch to him. The raging parental h0m0ph0b¡a in this story, including repeated f-b0mb dropping, came as an unwelcome surprise. I strongly believe in content warnings in both audio and print, which was lacking here, and led me to downgrade my star rating. OK Narrations but Not my cup of tea

I am a big fan of M/M romance. In fact, I am actually addicted. There is nothing like reading or listening to a great book about some gorgeous men falling in love with each other.

Now I am not sure if it is because I am listening to this book but I am finding it difficult to get past the first few chapters. This is just my opinion but I found the character Reed to be so annoying that I just don't even care what else is happening in the story. I am sure it gets better towards the end but unfortunately, this book did not appeal to me.

The narrator was pretty decent and I don't think I will have any issues listening to anything else he narrates. His performance of the different characters was interesting. Other than that I am not a fan of this story. That is not to say that it didn't get better or may not appeal to someone else. I just have limited tolerance for brattiness in a character.
