About this listen

Desperate times call for desperate measures . . .

Saddled with insurmountable debt, Tessa is desperate for a way out. When she's referred to an agency that pairs vampires with blood donors as a quick way to make some cash, she has no choice but to accept an arrangement. She expects pain. She expects fear. She expects a predator. But what she gets is something entirely different. Her vampire match is . . . sweet. Kind. Protective. And the way he makes her feel is anything but painful.

Can the ends justify the means?

Amos has long since given up on the idea of ever finding a blood mate. Accepting that the only live blood he'll ever enjoy will be from paid donors, he finally gives in and enlists a blood-matching service. But when he finally meets his match, she's everything he could have asked for in a mate—kind, funny, beautiful. He knows right away that he wants her for keeps, but it's a huge leap from temporary donor to eternal blood mate. If Amos is going to keep Tessa forever, he'll have to win her heart first.

Contains mature themes.

Hmmm… (spoilers)

I REALLY liked the erotic nature of this vampire book. The response that Tessa (h), had to the venom in Amos’s (H) bite was very hot. It was even better that she barely fought the pull. But unfortunately the story was just too repetitive. A smidgen more plot would have been much more gratifying. Also note, the only thing that connects this story to book 1 in the series is Alex. Remember? Grace’s (mostly incorporeal) vampire stalker ex-bf? In this book we learn he was old and powerful, and see the mess his death left. Still, it wasn’t a big enough mess to carry an entire book.

Also, I seem to be the only one who thinks that the Philipe sub-plot was rushed, icky, and weird. Personally, I would have put that guy down like a rabid dog. I would run him over with my car. I would have dropped his throatless carcass into that lake. The reviews calling him sweet, and going on about found family are nuts. IMO, inviting a once feral, grown man (centuries old), who’s a just been made into an apex predator to live in your home, predicts one of two outcomes: reluctant polyamory (“surprise honey we’re a throuple!”) or murder. But hey, let’s write an epilogue where the H and his FRAIL HUMAN MATE treat this dangerous rando like a toddler.

It’s like snuggling up with a warm blanket and hot cocoa on a cold day

There’s something so soothingly erotic about this book. I can’t say I’ve read another quite like it. I’ve been dropping books partway through lately but this one held my interest. If anything I was having to set timers to get myself to stop listening. If you are looking for something soothing, interesting, erotic, vampire then this is a great choice!

Great romance, ok story.

Did someone say SPICY?? 🌶️🌶️🌶️ This is a sweet romance with some added spice, lots of yearning and mutual obsession. For those looking for more descriptive tags there is a good amount of CNC and a consensual Predator/Prey dynamic. I loved how consent was handled and never felt uncomfortable in even the most intense moments.

The plot here is disappointingly thin, which is a shame because I LOVED what we got, just wish there was more of it. There were a few scenes that I was really looking forward to reading, but were instead glossed over with just a few sentences. Parts of the story felt rushed, especially the conclusion.

Overall though, this book was a shameless self indulgence for me. I’d recommend it if you enjoy the genre of vampire/monster romance.
