About this listen

Romance can be a hairy business - especially when you're a werewolf.

As the owner of Get a Mate Dating Service, Rylie is more than happy to step in and lend a hand to lonely lycanthropic hearts all over town. No matter how hopeless Rylie might be in finding her own soul mate, she has a knack for helping others find theirs.

Convinced that she is stuck with a family curse, Rylie is positive she will never find her true love. But when drool-worthy Jack Chandler shows up at her door, Rylie wonders if maybe the curse is finally broken.

But Rylie's life is about to become complicated courtesy of the after-dark crowd. When she begins receiving strange notes and harassment from a jilted client, events careen out of control.

Jack knows she's more hassle than he can handle. What he doesn't know is whether she's seriously in trouble - or simply delusional.

Narrator sounds like a chipmunk on acid. Fast and line she's yelling almost every word. I can't listen to anymore and I'm only 10 min in.

Holy cow

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

better writing! I'm Done with Rose Pressey, I can't see how any adult could enjoy these cartoonishly immature characters. They aren't even funny they were just ridiculously unbelievable and for a fantasy book that is saying a lot.

What didn’t you like about Suzy Harbulak’s performance?

This was quite possibly one of the worst narrations ever. Usually narrators struggle to differentiate one characters voice from another, surprisingly this was not the case here. The narrator did a great job with character voice. The problem here was even worst! Tempo and timbre. She seemed to be yelling at you often, and you could not tell inner monologues from spoken words due to a lack of pausing. Meanwhile character speaking was jittery, with sentences that ran on at times and pauses that seem to be in the middle of a word.

What character would you cut from How to Date a Werewolf?

Each character had a place, they were just poorly written.

Any additional comments?

This story had a great deal of potential, but sadly the writing was just to childish to realize that potential. I hoped it would turn around but at this point I have to recognize that I just don't like Rose Pressey books.

Would you try another book from Rose Pressey and/or Suzy Harbulak?

Possibly from the author, but definitely NOT from the narrator.

Would you be willing to try another book from Rose Pressey? Why or why not?

Perhaps. The content was somewhat entertaining, though I've read much better in the same genre. The heroine does a lot of things that make no sense and neglects to do things she should--even given the things she says to excuse them.

What didn’t you like about Suzy Harbulak’s performance?

She was just awful. Her characterizations and accents were all over the place. When two women were talking, it was almost impossible to tell which was which. When she did do an accent, it varied between generic Southern and valley girl. This was especially problematic since the character are in and are from New Orleans--which has an accent all its own and which differs from other Southern accents.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No. It would be too boring to be a good movie.

Any additional comments?

If you haven't listened to this yet, skip it. Get the Kindle version and read it the old fashioned way if you're interested in reading the story, but spare yourself the listen.

Narrator may have ruined whole series for me.

Loved the book, but the narrator reads with as much joy and character vocalization as most would a grocery list. Pauses after each sentence and has valley girl accent.

Recast!

i know it is a "fantasy" paranormal story. but it was even too unbelievable to believe! and the narrator sounded too robotic not smooth at all. could tell it was being read word for word. I'm thinking with more practice and experience both the writer and the narrator can improve greatly.

struggled to finish. kept dozing off!

Fun enough story. As with her other books I've read the heroine is driven by hormones instead of common sense. But she kept it clean, yay! Worth a few hours if you like this genre.

Typical Pressey

Would you consider the audio edition of How to Date a Werewolf to be better than the print version?

No

What three words best describe Suzy Harbulak’s voice?

Sing-song her cadence was choppy r
ather than natural

Any additional comments?

A cute story of the work and dating in the life of a lady werewolf. Said wolf has an unhappy customer stalker, a hot new neighbor, and an uncle with bad guys coming after her to get at him.

Same

The narration in this book is so terrible it is like listening to the performance in a 3rd grade play, granted the student reciting the lines is very chipper. Everything in the story is recited in the same tone and it sounds extremely forced.

It is kind of hard to tell if the story is any good or not through the narration, but it is easy to tell that all of the characters are vapid and one dimensional. I almost could not finish this book, and for me that is almost unheard of.

Like a 3rd Grade Play

Never read this author before, but I enjoyed this so much that I will be hunting up the rest of the series. The situations and dialog kept me laughing throughout. The family of prodigy jackals are just as wacky as the werewolves, and the rest of the werefolk are just perfect for the hockey venue! Get clues from the publisher's blurb, then get reading!

Super fun for Hockey freaks (and the rest of you!)

I had a really hard time getting through the first chapter. I love audio books but I think I will have to read this on my own. The narrator is by far one of the worst I have listened to. I'm glad I got it on sale, but I just couldn't finish it.

Really wanted to like it.
