Publisher's summary

It's been thirteen years since Lucy Sheridan was in Summer River. The last time she visited her aunt Sara there, as a teenager, she'd been sent home suddenly after being dragged out of a wild party - by the guy she had a crush on, just to make it more embarrassing.

Obviously Mason Fletcher - only a few years older but somehow a lot more of a grown-up - was the overprotective type who thought he had to come to her rescue. Now, returning after her aunt' s fatal car accident, Lucy is learning there was more to the story than she realized at the time. Mason had saved her from a very nasty crime that night - and soon afterward, Tristan, the cold-blooded rich kid who'd targeted her, disappeared mysteriously, his body never found.

A lot has changed in thirteen years. Lucy now works for a private investigation firm as a forensic genealogist, while Mason has quit the police force to run a successful security firm with his brother - though he still knows his way around a wrench when he fills in at his uncle' s local hardware store. Even Summer River has changed, from a sleepy farm town into a trendy upscale spot in California' s wine country.

But Mason is still a protector at heart, a serious (and seriously attractive) man. And when he and Lucy make a shocking discovery inside Sara' s house, and some of Tristan' s old friends start acting suspicious, Mason' s quietly fierce instincts kick into gear. He saved Lucy once, and he' ll save her again. But this time, she insists on playing a role in her own rescue.

An entertaining 'read', skip the listen

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I would have much preferred reading this book, rather than listening. The story eventually was strong enough for me to push through to the end. Time well-spent, no. I usually look forward getting in my car and listening, but not for this selection. The narrator negatively affected how I felt about the book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of River Road?

Mason being drugged at the winery and subsequent scene.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Amanda Leigh Cobb?

I'm not sure. Amanda Leigh Cobb has a pleasant voice, perfect for narration. I think she has potential. Her narration of dialogue in this book had an unnatural, affected, sing-song quality that really ruined the listening experience.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No, but I would read more of this author's books.

Good!

I enjoyed listening to the narration of Amanda L. Cobb. I think this audio book might of been one of her first narrations, because, as another reviewer said, she didn't change her voice at all. She read the book out loud. If you know this up front and accept it, you'll enjoy this audio book.
Worth a credit. 😊

If you like JAK, you will like this one.

If you like Jayne Ann Krentz as a general rule, you will like this one.

Same basic outline. Same basic outcome.

I felt there was a lot of telling and very little showing in this book.

We got a lot of info dumps. When items crucial to the plot or forward movement of the story happened, all of a sudden we had a character who was willing to engage another character in conversation to tell us what exactly happened, why, and what it means for the forward movement of the plot. I will admit, it got a bit old.

It was a perfectly enjoyable book to listen to while walking various airports and flying from Boston to Atlanta and back.

I listened to the Audible version. The narrator was fine. Nothing outstanding either positively or negatively.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MEN IN THIS BOOK ???

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not really. The story was intriguing and suspenseful which was its only saving grace, well, that and the fact that Lucy's character was great.

Would you be willing to try another book from Jayne Ann Krentz? Why or why not?

Not sure.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Amanda Leigh Cobb?

Eva Kaminsky; Tatiana Solkolov, even male narrators such as Kaleo Griffith, Jim Frangione, Adam Paul do better and diverse female voices as well as wonderful alpha male voices like Mason was portrayed as….

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Nope.

Any additional comments?

If ALC wishes to continue narrating I suggest she learn how to do male voices or only narrate books with women in them, even then she needs to change the voice from one woman to the next.No change from female to male voices or appropriate change in the female voice when situation would have called for something different in their tones or inflections. However, the most bothersome was that the men sounded like women.

Good read

Lots of confusing dialogue, where as the boys and the girls sound alike. Interesting outcome.

Good mystery

Narrator did not make much difference between voices which sometimes made it hard to follow a conversation

Rocky Road

I like Jayne's books & this one was a pretty good romantic suspense BUT I would rather had just"READ"the book. The Narrator is o.k.,sounds like she's just starting out with narrating books, she reads the story like you would expect to hear some one reading to children. She seems to get better as the book goes along but then towards the end is right back to narrating like in the beginning. The story was pretty good, unexpected people involved, keeps you guessing.

Very Compelling

What did you love best about River Road?

The story was a fun ride and I really liked the way the narrator played all the different characters in such distinct, fun ways!

What was one of the most memorable moments of River Road?

The gun battle.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not a very 'moving' story per se, but I thoroughly enjoyed it if that means anything.

Any additional comments?

I very much enjoyed all the different characters the narrator (Amanda Cobb) performed. Her storytelling was clear and engaging -- it got me hooked from the very beginning!

Needs a better Narrator

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I enjoyed the story, but felt the narrators voice was somewhat irritating and made listening somewhat unpleasant.

Would you be willing to try another one of Amanda Leigh Cobb’s performances?

No

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the story and think I would have enjoyed the book more if I read it myself, because the narrator was bad. I've been spoiled by the narrators like Jim Dale, or Justine Eyre, and I would highly recommend Ms. Krentz finds another narrator for her next book.
