Publisher's summary

The only way to escape is to die.

For 18 years I've suffered at the hands of the Hunters. For 18 years they've done their best to break me, to tear me open and unleash the terrifying monster that lives within.

Until the day they go too far.

When a desperate escape leads to another brush with death, I'm forced to place my trust in the hands of four formidable strangers. Wild and untamed, their feral natures call to me, their warrior hearts make mine come alive. And when they offer me a place to stay while I heal, I can't say no.

But the secrets I carry are deadly, and my past is a twisted, evil nightmare better left forgotten.

They may think they want to know me, they may think the secrets they guard behind hard eyes and closed expressions comes close to the ones I keep. But should they ever discover just who they've let into their home, just what I really am...their hatred could be the one thing that finally breaks me. And if I break, the darkness inside me will finally be free.

Contains mature themes.

Amazing but...

I want to preface this review by saying that I did thoroughly enjoy this book. Even with the following complaints/issues, I highly recommend listening. Despite what I am about to write, this book was really good at getting to your feels and you truly understood where the characters were coming from... Well except for maybe Lucien because he's pretty much a jackass through the whole thing but you still KIND of get where he's coming from. It will be better when we learn more of his story, I think.

That said, the book starts out really strong. Lots of action and your on the edge of your seat right up until she meets the guys. It shows down a bit, as you might expect because you need to introduce characters and relationships and everything... Then it stalls. It's just the same chapters written over and over again in circles. I kept waiting for a point when all would be revealed and they would finally FINALLY get cracking on making plans and...idk SOMETHING. However, I have 32mins left in the book and Hope hasn't even told them about her monster or what happened to her. It's basically twenty hours of the same thing over and over and two hours of actual plot momentum.

But I did love it, even being frustrated. I felt sorry for Hope and I wish she would just tell them so they can fix things. I know a lot of reviews will complain that she is weak but she actually is a victim and her trauma is recent enough that I can't blame her for being timid. It makes sense. Between what happened before the compound and then what happened after, you can't really expect someone to be strong and too not internalize everything as their fault.

Narrator's were awesome. I always love me some Aiden Snow. That sexy growly voice of his is the best.

Can’t stop going back to it

This is an audiobook that I replayed more than once. That’s not something I do often. But I’m so interested in Hope and her men and the world that is being constructed around them. The character development is something that has so much depth to it that you I keep getting more from them. The narration is probably the best I’ve heard in ages, especially since both narrators are equally talented.

Love the voice actors chosen, love the books!!

I love this series. I've reread the two books over three times and love them more everytime. This is the first time I've listened to the books on audible. Love the deep grumble of Ruarc's voice portrayed by Aiden Snow.

Liked it alot better after a second listen

Unbelievable, I know your like asking yourself, how could she listen to this a second time? Well I did for some crazed reason and I've got to say, at first, I HATED the FMC. Her drawn out self monologue rants and overall just whinny, weak and scared of her own dame shadow character, dominated this entire read. Yes, there was no real redemption or development with that. BUT, the second read to this was HILARIOUS!!! How she'd just studor whenever she needed to make a decision or just shrink into herself and cry when one of the men got frustrated with her craziness, just had me rolling on on the floor instead of being upset about that. I also found a better appreciation for the male characters, witch made me realize during the first read, that I just dragged through certain parts and didn't really pay attention to a lot of it due to lengthy time frame. Now I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 3, because I agree with the other reviewers that the story is overly extended and lacking in plot for a 21 hour run. Although at the end, you literally feel like you were the one living in that house with Hope, doing day to day things and getting to know the characters more thoroughly and that does usually make an RH romance a bit more believable. So not a bad listen.

WOW

I couldn't get enough of this story! It may have been a slow burn, and many times I felt impatient to learn more or see more happen, but the story still pulled me right in and held my attention the entire time. I've re-read and re-listened to it so many times while waiting for the next book to come out, and I feel like I learn something I missed or overlooked each time I listen again!

10/10 recommend

This has been one of my favorites for a while. I first read and then listened to this book when it first came out. It is a good long one with plenty of detail that fully immerses the listener into the book. It is a slow building series without quite as much steam as I usually go for. Multiple pov with male & female narrators. The narrators really bring the story to life. Book 2 of this series is also out on audible. 10/10 recommend.

Good character development but felt drawn out

Enjoyed the listen despite some awkward voice transitions from the male narrator at times. Story premises are interesting and so far I’m enjoying the series, however, Hope’s indecisiveness about telling the others things goes on for…way too long in an almost purgatorial loop of with she won’t she, to the point where I had to check to see that I wasn’t accidentally replaying chapters.

While endearing at first, she quickly becomes just straight up annoying and doesn’t seem to actually grow much as a character..in the sense of actually learning from her surroundings and making intelligent decisions and conclusions.
