Publisher's summary
As an African American, have you hungered for stories about your ancestral home? Have you scoured the shelves for historical accounts depicting your ancestors as anything but enslaved people? Have you searched for literature that depicts women of African heritage as the powerful, complex, beautiful beings they are—but found only one-dimensional caricatures?
I Am a Dahomey Warrior is an evocative narrative poem that follows the gripping journey of a young heroin coming of age in precolonial West Africa. This vivid and eloquent story is based on a real tribe of female warriors whose fearlessness and prowess in battle have been likened to the mythical Greek Amazons for hundreds of years.
Step into the mind of a fierce African warrior’s relentless quest for justice. Immerse yourself in a profound story that faithfully illustrates your ancestors’ power, femininity, and formidable reputation prior to the colonization of Africa. This riveting adventure not only follows an archetype of courage, honor, and sheer strength but epitomizes everything you’ve been seeking in a historical African drama.

The Huntress pulled me closer, hugging me tightly. She looked down at me with dark piercing eyes and said, “None of this is your fault.” “Today you are only a child, and you did what you were able to do, survive!”

Story
I am Axios of Sparta, and I was born to kill. At age seven, I left home to train with other boys where we were taught obedience, solidarity, military strategy, and how to withstand pain. My harsh upbringing stripped me of my weaknesses and forced me to become strong. Ruthless. But, I craved something greater - a life I could never have. Against all odds, and the toughest training a warrior could endure, I found an unexpected love in the arms of a fellow Spartan. He was the very air I breathed and the water that sustained me. Fighting side by side with him, we were invincible.

Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Story
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

A Captivating Journey Unveiled: 'I am a Dahomey Wa
As an avid reader, I am always in search of stories that inspire me. "I am a Dahomey Warrior!" did just that. The audiobook version gave me a new perspective on the story. It was like seeing it come to life before my very eyes. The narrator, Blessyn Kure, did an excellent job bringing out the emotions in the story. I felt like I was right there with the characters.
Dionne, the author, has done an amazing job. Writing a compelling story is not an easy feat, but she has succeeded in doing just that. Her work is a testament to the power of storytelling.

Incredible - Leaves you hungry for More!
I am an avid audio book reader, and I absolutely loved this refreshing short power packed book. The author Dionne Hunter truly knows how to draw the reader in, and hold onto you. Many times I literally felt like I was going through the "warrior trials" with her. I could feel, see, and almost taste the emotions held within.
I truly need to have more from both this Author and this story.

From a young heroine to a Dahomey Warrior
Blessyn Kure did an outstanding job as the narrator. Listening to this book opened my mind and gave me a better perspective and appreciation of the story. In my mind, I was transformed to the period of the time, and place of this great story about our ancestors! Thank you for sharing your talent Dionne Hunter!

Thankful to Read/Hear Such a Well-Done Work!
Dionne is an author who successfully communicates to her audience with a depth that is both sincere and palpable. The story of this Dahomey warrior and the tumults of battle she conquered, serve to empower readers of all demographics. The triumph of the human spirit is always a wonder to behold, and she uses this time-honored reality as a canvas upon which to paint this historically set story. And let me not forget, the voice actress and the overall presentation felt authentic and intentionally well-done. I am hoping to read any future works Ms. Hunter sees fit to publish as time progresses.

Riveting writing and narration!
Let me start off by saying that I am the author of “I am a Dahomey Warrior!”
And I want to express my thanks to all that take the time to listen to my audiobook!
This is my first ever audible release but if I may say so myself “I am a Dahomey Warrior” is an action packed compelling short story,, And honestly each time I read the paperback version or hear the audio version I find myself cheering at some parts and later I find myself becoming emotional AND I wrote the book and know what’s going to happen.
I truly think you will love my audiobook.
And let me not forget the awesome narrator Blessyn Kure! She listened to my thoughts BUT was really able to make the story her own and also brings a unique prospective and voice since she is originally from the continent of Africa..
Also Blessyn did more than narrate she added the extraordinary yet subtle sound effects found within to the recording as well..
I’d love to hear your thoughts after you listen!!
Please leave a review I will read each and every one of them!!
Thank you for all your support.., and please follow me so that you are alerted when the next story in the series lands…

Vivid Story of Our Past
This story never gets old! I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. After reading the paperback, the audio version added life to the words and the images I was able to paint in my mind. The narration is amazing, and I love the choice of the background noise "scenery" in the reading. Dionne, keep writing our stories!
