About this listen

There once was a man who loved me, until he forgot every memory we’ve ever shared…

Gabriel Sinclair would forever be my first. My first best friend, my first kiss, my first love…and my first heartbreak. The accident that nearly took his life ripped the memory of me from his grasp—and for the last decades, I’ve let the guilt of that one terrible night keep us apart.

It took me years to make peace with the fact that he would no longer be in my life, so when he shows up as the architect for my new home, my world’s tossed upside down. Now, I’m trapped in a loveless marriage, raising a child, while Gabriel stirs up feelings I thought long buried. It feels like my soul is waking up after years of being in a deep slumber—and my controlling husband will do whatever it takes to keep us apart.

I know I should push Gabriel away to protect him from the shadows surrounding me. Yet, I can’t deny the hope that blooms whenever he’s near—the chance that he might remember me, that we could reclaim the chapters of our story that we’ve lost.

Nothing good could come from us, but I can’t help but wonder what would happen if this time...he stayed.

There once was a man who loved me… And now he’s my only hope for tomorrow.

Great Love Story

I loved Gabriel throughout the novel, but Keaira….I didn’t dislike her, but I wasn’t in love with her. She never really seemed to stand up for herself, Gabriel was always coming to her rescue. She was timid the entire book. I don’t mind a damsel in distress story but from beginning to end was a lot for ME. I like to see characters evolve especially when we get to toggle back and forth between the past and present. The DV was hard to stomach bc you know there are ppl who have gone through this very situation. The imagery was very vivid. Although, I said she never stood up for herself, I in no shape, form or fashion condone Henry’s behavior. I did find it odd her choice of career yet she didn’t/couldn’t pick up on the red flags in her own husband. She didn’t see how Ava could be process the situation in more than one way. Everything had to be told to her. From her client, to Gabriel, her boss, her daughter, her MIL. Overall, the book was a good listen. I loved both narrators, they really brought the story to life.

Another Brittainy Cherry book...another cry!

I don't know how she can write such beautiful, swoony, quirky, heartbreaking and emotionally complex stories, but Brittainy Cherry is a master storyteller.
This story is full of twists and turns, flashbacks and devastating present day scenes. A story about friendship growing into love, love lost, love rediscovered and a hard fought happily ever after.

Great narrators but story was boring and slow.

This book was so slow in rhythm and rather boring. The FMC made me so mad with how weak she was during times I would have liked her to show strength. She allowed her husband to teat her like 💩 for years. There was only one sex scene, and the book was very slow paced. I wouldn't listen again, This was probably the wrong book to listen to after listening to the Devout Series. Narration was 5 ⭐️! Winston is forever Booke Bae #1! Marcella was good too.

Her voice was great

I loved Marcella Cox voice as both the FMC and MMC and ahole husband, however once W. James did his teen voice, it didn’t seem to fully sound mature as his adult voice should have and I was utterly annoyed and disappointed. However, the concept of the book was great. A tad predictable and very triggering for DV Survivors. So please read the TW. I would have liked to have seen more character development as I love BC books!!! But not every book is for everyone in every season. Wasn’t my season for the book I guess, will revisit the paperback next year
