About this listen

After leaving the city life behind to escape my loveless marriage, I moved to small-town Havenbarrow for a fresh start.

What I didn’t expect was to find myself drawn to the town’s black sheep. They called him troubled, cold, a man with a dark past.

What everyone seemed to miss about Jax was the splashes of light in his eyes, the random acts of kindness he performed when no one was watching, and the way he made me smile and laugh.

Jax helped unpack the baggage I’d been carrying around with me. He was patient with my pain and gentle with my scars. He was the stillness during my hurricane.

Yet when both of our pasts came back to haunt our present days, we realized quickly that sometimes love stories don't end the way we’d hoped.

Sometimes you were left with only the damage from the storm.

I love Brittainy Cherry's work. I'm not much for romance novels, but sometimes when I'm in the mood to read one, she's the first author I go to. She writes beautiful stories and this one is no exception. The only problem I had with the audiobook was the narrator for Jax. He just seemed very monotone and rambled quickly through his parts.

Great story, just not the right narrator for Jax

I love the plot of the story. I’m a fan of childhood friends growing up to find love with each other, but I really think that the narrator‘s ruined this for me. The title says, “Southern Storms”, and they were supposedly living in Kentucky, yet there wasn’t one is southern accent in any of the characters. I just thought that their performance was lackluster and it really made me want to stop listening. I should’ve just read this book instead because I am a big fan of Brittainy Cherry. A lot of times I like to look at edits of books to get the character in my mind, but most of the edits I found were pictured the female character as black. There was no where in the description of the book that says she’s black. I know that doesn’t matter, and it’s such a little thing, but it did bug me because I am into details.

This is such a lovely story and I think it could’ve been much better had there been to narrators doing a better job at it. It was just disappointing for me.

Narrators Ruined it For Me

For some reason, I expected this book to flood me with emotion and heart and instead it just kind of fell flat for me. It felt like the build up took so long and then the ending felt rushed and insincere.

The narrators didn’t do it for me either. The female narrators range was limited and all the characters sounded super, super young and the same.

Not Enough

5 Sun and Moon Stars. Absolutely loved this one! A tragically beautiful story about weathering the storm and getting to the other side. Jax and Kennedy’s story grabs you from the prologue and their journey will hold you until the last word. I highly recommend this must listen! I really enjoyed the narration.

“Maybe it isn’t about getting to the sunlight, but being able to weather the storm with those you love most.”

As usual, Brittainy brings you an incredible, emotional story.
Some of my favorite kind of characters are the sensitive, broken types and Jax and Kennedy fit the bill.
It's a compelling story of overcoming some traumatic events to find their place with each other after reconnecting. I had some trouble following the timelines and some parts of the story felt unfinished to me but overall I enjoyed this new world. There were plenty of side characters to go along with this that I hope to see more of in the upcoming stories.
I listened to this on audio and I thought Kennedy's narrator was good, but Jax's voice didn't really fit the character so much.

Enjoyed this new world!

Brittany Cherry is the absolute best. This book was not one of her best. The readers didn’t fit the characters and seemed to be rushing. The pacing of the book also seemed off. Some inconsequential scenes had such detail but the important scenes where generalized. The last 1/3 of the book seemed super rushed.
I want to listen the other 2 in the series, but it’s the same readers. Might but the book instead.

Love the characters, but….

The male reader is horrible. I love this author but he ruined this book. The story was okay. I love the author but this wasn’t one of my favorite.

The male reader..

I really enjoyed this book. Brittainy knows how to write beautiful romances that carry characters through the tragedies and heartbreaks of life. This is a book about grief, guilt, and abiding love. It is a reminder that there can be HEAs after the most horrific storms. I didn’t love the male narrator, but the story was worth it
