About this listen

Northern California girl Charlotte “Charlie” Lucas has two great loves: Diet Coke and Pride and Prejudice. But her passion for Regency classics is tempered by a very real fear: Charlie is terrified of having to endure the fate of her namesake—spinsterhood. Despite her best attempts to maintain a modern sensibility, she can’t say no when an elderly neighbor asks Charlie to attend a charity ball with her grandson. Blind date or not, Charlie is powerless to resist the allure of a real-life ball. Soon it’s clear that she will struggle to resist the charms of her blind date too.

Liam Connell is every bit the swoon-worthy leading man, straight out of Charlie’s daydreams. But he’s completely unattainable—his last girlfriend was a gorgeous actress and a far cry from Charlie’s world. So after a magical evening with Liam, Charlie is ready to get back to reality, even if her best option right now is a former boyfriend who wants to give it another shot. Unfortunately, despite imagining she’ll never see Liam again, he seems to be everywhere. How is a lady to move past a fantasy when life suddenly seems to be imitating fiction to an alarming degree?

another masterpiece from Kasey Stockton

it's been a while that Kasey Stockton has become an automatic listen/read for me. but I even hesitated on getting this book since the description didn't quite convince me this was for me. also I tend to prefer to stay away from modern-day stories since it makes it harder for me to suspend my disbelief.

but am I glad I gave this book the chance! I am so impressed with it. the story was absolutely wonderful. the characters are well written and the pace is great. Charlie was an absolute delight, such a lovely person and I was rooting for her like she was my best friend. and Liam was so wonderful too! even if I thought he'd be too good to be true, the writing convinced me he was real. he's totally worth all of the hype.

the cherry on top to convince me to listen was the narrator. she is a delight to listen to. her voice is so pleasant and her emotion is always just right. never too dramatic nor too dry. I'm so glad she was chosen for this book. she made something wonderful already even better.

the journey the main character goes through is also very good. this isn't only surface-level romance. Kasey Stockton writes amazing characters with their own histories and struggles and makes you go through a journey with them that makes the romance even better. it never takes center stage too much though so you don't have to worry about the romance losing the focus. it never does. and it's never too heavy that it makes the story too dramatic for it to be fun. I don't know how she does it, but she always strikes the perfect balance.

the hours I spent listening to this story were pure joy and I'd recommend this to anyone that enjoys romance. you won't regret it.

So so good, didn’t want it to end!!

I was hesitant for a modern day story after being so immersed in regency romance but I loved this so much! I laughed, jumped up and down and cried, one of my favorite stories!

Enjoyable Jane Austin themed contemporary romance

Just finished listening to this audible book and really enjoyed it.
It's a clean, contemporary romance with a lot of Pride and Prejudice references.
Will probably put it in my favorites list of stories I listen to over again.

Sweet and swoony perfection!

I thoroughly enjoyed every part of this book. If you love Jane Austen, you will love this modern story about an every day girl who experiences a love that is anything, but ordinary!

Fun, easy, breezy read

Only complaint was too much of the circular thought process of “he’s perfect>>I’m not good enough>>I don’t know if I can trust because of past relationships>>…proves she’s worthy and he is trustworthy…>>and back to ‘“he’s perfect”’.

Otherwise, I liked the premise. It was a fresh, easy listen with a lovely ending.

Also, great narration! Thank you both!
