About this listen

A romantic historical YA novel featuring strong female characters from the acclaimed author of Wait for Me.

It’s 1942, and as the war rages in Europe, Maisie McCall is in the Scottish Highlands swinging an ax for the Women’s Timber Corps. Maisie relishes her newfound independence working alongside other lumberjacks - including the mysterious John Lindsay.

As Maisie and John work side by side felling trees together, Maisie can’t help but feel that their friendship has the spark of something more to it. And yet every time she gets close to him, John pulls away. It’s not until Maisie rescues John from a terrible logging accident that he begins to open up to her about the truth of his past and the pain he’s been hiding.

Suddenly, everything is more complicated than Maisie expected. And as she helps John untangle his shattered history, she must decide if she’s willing to risk her heart to help heal his. But in a world devastated by war, love might be the only thing left that can begin to heal what’s broken.

Fascinating!

Maisie McCall escapes a difficult home life and heads to the Scottish Highlands to work for the Women’s Timber Corps. The author does an amazing job weaving historical detail into this young adult novel about a young woman realizing her own strength, both inside and out. Five stars!

Good story line but insanely cringey

The plot is good but the characters are all very insecure and give me second hand embarrassment.

Fabulous Story

The author has created a stunning storyline that is brought to life by a very talented reader whom uses a destinct voice for each character in the novel. I have loved listening to both voice and story!

interesting

Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres and this was a great story about the WTC which I was unfamiliar with. The narration was excellent and really helped add to the story.

In Another Time Review

This was a beautifully written novel and the narrator did amazing at portraying the love, joy and even heartbreak in this story.

I wish I could listen to it for the first time all over again. To experience the feelings and beauty for the very first time.

Could have been a great story, but lacked detail.

The main character was not believable as a 17 year old. The rest of the characters lacked depth and background.
The simplistic explanation of her parents actions was wholly inadequate and needs better resolution.
Wasn't impressed with the narration, many of the 'voices' were just shrill and annoying. Was a struggle to finish.

Seriously slow and drug out.

Not for me. I literally cant stand whining and that's all the man did and the girl just took the verbally abuse and manipulation....
