Cute

Another romantic mystery comedy. Nothing special. But I'm a sucker for these types of stories so I enjoyed it. Think I'll continue with the series.

Fun summer read.

Stephanie Bond writes chic lit that is always fun to read. Great characters, with a budding romance mixed into the mystery plot. BUT . . . the narrator has could be improved. I've never heard the word "garage" pronounced so weirdly, even in New Orleans.

Loved the book, hated the narrator!!

What made the experience of listening to In Deep Voodoo the most enjoyable?

I liked the story. However, if I didn't have trouble seeing, I would've stopped listening because of the narrator!! She is horrible, I mean who on earth actually talks that way?? She has weird pronunciation of words, that started to really drive me crazy!! (especially the word "garage" she prounances it "gaa-raage".) Also, she is terrible with her rendition of the character's voices!! She actually took away from the humor that the author intended.Stephanie Bond is a great author, however, this narrator hurt her book! I hope she doesn't use her in the future!!

What aspect of Maureen Jones’s performance would you have changed?

EVERYTHING!!! Especially the way she prounances certain words, (especially garage! omg! I wanted to slap her & tell her to speak right!!)Also, she does a terrible job with the character's voices! Book would've been so much better with a different narrator!!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed out loud in few places, was on the edge of my seat, & could barely stop listening because I enjoyed the story so much! I actually almost stopped listening because of the narrator, but couldn't because I wanted to finish the book!!

Any additional comments?

Looking forward to book two in this series, as well as many of the author's other books!

Cajun and Voodoo infused crime = fun!

I quite enjoyed this. The Cajun and Voodoo cultural pieces were fascinating, and the crimes were infused with them in believable ways. I'm glad I picked it up. The reader was my least favorite part of the experience, and she was good, it's just that some readers don't do as much for me. If I have a complaint it's that the book would have been fine without what felt like gratuitous sex scenes. I guess I like sex to be hinted at, unless the book is about that, and this was rather detailed.

Promising First in Series

What did you love best about In Deep Voodoo?

I liked the characters, and the setting.

What did you like best about this story?

The main character was funny, and relatable.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narrator was all wrong. Her accent and pronunciation of some words was off putting.

Who was the most memorable character of In Deep Voodoo and why?

Marie - she should have her own story so we could learn more about her ESP, and mysterious (or make believe) boyfriend.

Any additional comments?

The story/plot seemed unfinished in some ways. However, it was a good introduction and set up for a new series.

Random Buy -- Now I'm addicted

I had never heard of Stephanie Bond before buying this book and I had just moved to an area that was going to require a 90-minute one-way commute every day. What can I say? I loved this book and almost didn't want to turn off the car when I pulled in the drive way. I loved the quirky little town of Mojo and all its wonderful characters.

The story is interesting and the subplots all leave you wanting more of Mojo. The narrator does a wonderful job and helped keep the light and semi-humorous feel of the story.

I would totally recommend this story to any romantic mystery lovers out there. Totally worth it.

What can I say

I just skipped to the end and was satisfied. At least I made it half way through. This story could have been told in like 23 pages.

VooDooWhoDo?YouDo!

Cute and entertaining story about a divorced,Louisiana woman who's husband turned out..NOT to be the man she thought he was.Alot of mystery, murder and hyginx and cool characters who all play some kind of role in this"who done it"mystery. You'll be surprised who it turned out being and why. There is also some romance with a sexy Nawlan's cajun, who helps Penny solve these mysteries and prove her innocence.

Too long and too ridiculous.

First of all, the word "Humorous" in the title is a bit of a stretch. There are obvious parts that were trying to inject humor, but it just came off feeling uncomfortable and ridiculous -slap-stick events that are neither funny, nor necessary.

Second of all, the narrator is not great. The main male character is supposed to have a Creole accent, and instead it's just a gruff southern-ish accent. I also had to cringe every time she said "garage."

Lastly, if you're looking for a fun story with some urban fantasy thrown in like I was, you won't find it here. It's just a murder mystery story with characters you love to hate and a main character who can't catch a break.

Above average romantic mystery

Stephanie Bond does a good job writing an entertaining story. Enough twists to keep it interesting, very easy listening. She is better than most authors of this genre.

The narrator was just right for the story as well. Just one criticism- the way she pronounced "garage" was like fingers on a chalkboard for me.
