About this listen

The rules are simple:

Never speak to outsiders.

Never yearn for something more.

And never, ever seek the pleasure of a stolen kiss...or a whispered promise that with him, she can finally be free.

Abby Merkley has been a member of the Church of the Apocalyptic Faith since she was a child, and there's no way out...until her darkly handsome, brooding neighbor defies the rules and takes her into the safety of his arms.

He should frighten her, but everything inside Abby thrills at Luc Stanek's rough manners and shockingly gentle touch. He excites her, ignites her, leaves her shaken and wanting more. But evil men follow in her footsteps, and it may take more than one fierce beauty to defend her loving beast.

5 STARS!!

After the first two books in this series, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. My only concern was the cult plotline within the book. When reading romantic suspense I shy away from serial killers and cults. I usually draw hard lines at those, but I couldn't turn away from another Anders book. This is only the author's third book, but she has already created a die-hard follower in me.

Although this review is technically for In His Hands, my words encompass the series as a whole. First, Adriana Anders has the most beautiful and mesmerizing way with words. Secondly, I revel in the pacing of these stories. The character development and romantic build-up is perfect. Although this book is labeled as romantic suspense, the romance is never overshadowed by the suspense. In fact, the suspense is so subtle, keeping you on edge until the climactic finale. By the time I'm finished, I'm so familiar with these characters that I feel I too live in their town, sharing all of their joys and sorrows. I'm not sure if the author is writing any additional stories within this fictional world, but I sure would love seeing more - maybe Jesse's story. If not, I'm sad to see them go, but excited to see what Adriana Anders has next.

A word on the Blank Canvas series audiobooks - I alternately read and listened to the audio with each of the books in this series. Each book had the same narrator and I felt she improved with each subsequent book. While I didn't care for the narration as much in the first book, I loved it in book 3. Although I prefer to read, I would listen to passages in Luc's POV just to hear the narrator's French accent. This was one of the rare times I actually enjoyed the narration over my own reading.
