Critic reviews

"Gidwitz is back with a second book that, if possible, outshines A Tale Dark & Grimm." (School Library Journal starred review)

"Compulsively readable." (Kirkus Reviews starred review)

"Gory, hilarious, touching, and lyrical all at once, with tons of kid appeal." (The Horn Book)

"Adam Gidwitz leads us into creepy forests, gruesome deeds, terrible monsters, and - far worse - the dark places of the human heart. It’s horrible...and I LOVED it!" (Tom Angleberger, author of The Strange Case of Origami)

The stories just keep better. The characters, humor, story, the warnings of scary parts and even the ravens. The author/narrator is fantastic. A great read/listen. Can't wait for the conclusion!

Such a Great Sequel

I am thirteen years old and have been reading and rereading this series for three years and and have recommended it to my best friend who also loves it!i found the humor very funny (albeit slightly dark but that just makes the story feel more..real). I much prefer the original fairytales to the ones they tell us in pre-school. And I thought Eddie TOTALLY ROCKS!!!!!⚔️🦎

Epic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🐉⚔️🦎

I liked that it was gross but awesome. It’s not very relatable but it was cool.

I love it so much!!!!!

My kids can't get enough of this author. We are usually complete wimps when it comes to anything Gore or scary.... and this is definitely one gruesome, Grimm story. BUT OMG so well written and narrated.

Gruesome but Great

A delightfully dark read weaving Jack and Jill through various fairy tales and teaching them important life lessons along the way. Definitely not for the sensitive or young child, but my teen and preteen loved it! Lots of laughs, "wows" and raised eyebrows as we listened each morning on the way to school. Fun for most ages!

Delightfully Dark

The authors inflection change throughout switching character voices, adds so much to the reading. It being such a genius, yet minute detail, brings me to want him to read ALL of my books. lol. Aside from the fact that, as of right now, I see nothing about Netflix again, I can't imagine the first book series performed poorly. I LOVED IT! Come on Netflix, get it together! We need this!

we need another Netflix series!
