About this listen

"My name is Steve Lewis.

I know this because it's one of the few things I remember.

I have a wife, a son, and I run a successful business.

I know this because that's what they tell me.

I remember things that aren't true.

I forget things that are.

I see things and people that aren't real.

You see, I have brain damage

...and that's the only rational explanation for things like this."

Blew me away

What a great book. It's rare when you get a hold of a book that makes you hit the "30 seconds back button" when someone else's phone rings because you don't want to miss even 3 seconds of precious listening time. This is one of those books.

I treasured every second, and unlike others, I was hooked from the start. I love books that are written in the first person, and I also liked going into this book knowing NOTHING. Please be careful not to know too much about this book before you read it. Some reviews here contain spoilers but didn't bother mentioning as much.

I will only tell you that it's a story about a guy who gets in an accident and wakes up to a life that's not familiar to him. Some memories come back to him, but other things are just Twilight Zone weird. And that's what makes it such a darned good book. It's a mystery that you have to figure out. And like others, I had several theories (that I won't share) about what could be going on, and you will have your own theories, too.

This is a first-person mystery of the first order. I can't recommend it highly enough. The narrator Timothy McKean did a great job convincing me when he was in pain, when he was confused, and when he was happy. Heads up: some brief graphic sex (written in a classy way, however), and language that fits the moment and if anything, I could have preferred a bit more, but then again, I tend to be a bit foul-mouthed myself in real life, so I like when I run into book characters who remind me of myself.

Even though I got this book at no cost in exchange for this honest review, I can't wait for Daniel Fox to write again because this guy has talent, and he writes the kind of stories I love.

Unexpected ending

I was given this title for free for an unbiased review.
The story was a little slow to start but picked up quite well as I went- worth the wait.
I thought I had it figured out three different times and definitely didn't see the ending coming. Pretty good story.

Blew My Mind

Any additional comments?

I read almost exclusively thriller/mystery genre books. Rarely do I come across something that is so totally outside of the box that I am not even able to begin to guess what is going on. This is one of those books. I found it truly astounding. It runs the gamut of possibilities but never gives it away until the very end. Aliens? Ghosts? Brain damage? Psychosis? Insanity? Who knows! I didn't. Until I got to the end and was completely blown away by the conclusion. This tale is truly unique, I can't compare it to anything I've read or seen before. I would recommend "In The Dark" to absolutely anyone. I don't care what genre you like, you'll like this book. It's too riveting not to love! 10/10 I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Everything you love about an audiboook!

Any additional comments?

This book was perfection. Absolute. Perfection. It was a cross between SIxrh Sense and Misery and told in a first person POV reminiscent of the character Joe, in You. Just perfection.

I could not stop listening!

The twists and turns in this listen were delicious. I was constantly kept on my toes and not until the last chapter, just the way the author planned it, was I able to figure out what happened. This book was just that good!

Paranormal Coma

I enjoyed this suspenseful thriller and did suspect a problem with Lisa but originally Steve did not. It has a few twists and turns. The narration was good. I would be willing to listen to more books like this from author and encourage him to write more thrillers. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review, Thank you!

Blown away. An awesome story

This was a great book. Downloaded the Audiobook version and was immediately captivated. Had me guessing the whole time on what was actually happening. Glad I ran into the author at an event or I probably never would have found this powerful and intriguing book!
