About this listen

In the vast, untamed wilderness of Animara, we find one of nature’s most extraordinary creatures—the Gulltide. This majestic Animara, with its elegant wings and sharp instincts, embarks on an ancient and perilous journey, one that has been undertaken for millennia.

As winter tightens its grip, the Gulltide faces an urgent task: to reunite with its mate before the brutal cold makes survival almost impossible. We follow this resilient creature as it navigates treacherous coastlines, soars over endless oceans, and confronts predators that lie in wait. Each day is a battle, as food becomes scarce and the elements grow harsher.

Yet, even in these unforgiving conditions, the Gulltide demonstrates remarkable ingenuity and strength. It is a testament to the endurance and adaptability of life in this fragile, yet awe-inspiring world.

This Nature-sim LitRPG novel is the first in the Lives of the Animara series.

One of the most unique stories I’ve listened too

In the wake of the gulltide is a quite unique story in the portrayal of LITrpg as a nature documentary of sorts. Following a monster/bird throughout its lifecycle. Capping this unique and absolutely fascinating story is Miles Meili’s as always wonderful performance of this audiobook.

I will say this story may not be for everyone but I do suggest giving it a listen anyway.

I’m quite excited for the next book (asuming there will be one) and fingers crossed we will get it soon.

Excellent voice acting

I’ll preface this by stating I received a free copy of the audiobook in exchange for my true and honest review.

This was a tremendously interesting story. We follow a Pokémon like animal, an animara, called a gulltide. Through hunting, mating, raising young, we get an entire life story of this gulltide and it’s so fascinating.

It is written, and narrated, as a nature documentary and they hit the nail on the head. It’s captivating and kept me wanting to continue just to see what would happen. Although the LitRPG aspect doesn’t come into play that much, it adds a little something extra to the story and assists with following their progress.

I’m looking forward to more in the series!

Litrpg Nature Documentary

It was an interesting addition to types of Litrpg with a soothing narration. Decently crunchy stats from calories from items eaten to miles flown and even relationship bond stats. Worth a shot if you like a story that’s like a nature documentary or birds with extra abilities.

Unique LitRPG

A very unique LitRPG delivered in the style of a BBC nature documentary. It can be a little dry, but understandable given the style that it's going for. If you're a nature or ecology fan this may be a good listen of you want something that's very grounded in ecology and conservation with a nice pokemon-esque twist. The narrator does a wonderful job of capturing that soothing documentary sound.

Litrpg animal documentary

In the Wake of the Gulltide

An Animara is an animal with powers and this ability to evolve to a new form once it gets enough experience points. This story follows one tagged gulltide, a seagull like Animara. We follow the struggles of gathering food, both hunting and being hunted, migration, and much more.

This is probably the most unique litrpg that I have read. It takes on a documentary format to follow the early life of this animal. Like most documentaries, there is a focus on environmentalism. At times, I forgot that this was a litrpg, until the Gulltide world use a water or air based ability. Miles Meili does a great job with the narration.
