About this listen

#1 New York Times Bestseller

Past midnight, Chyna Shepard, twenty-six, gazes out a moonlit window, unable to sleep on her first night in the Napa Valley home of her best friend’s family. Instinct proves reliable. A murderous sociopath, Edgler Foreman Vess, has entered the house, intent on killing everyone inside. A self-proclaimed “homicidal adventurer,” Vess lives only to satisfy all appetites as they arise, to immerse himself in sensation, to live without fear, remorse, or limits, to live with intensity. Chyna is trapped in his deadly orbit.

Chyna is a survivor, toughened by a lifelong struggle for safety and self-respect. Now she will be tested as never before. At first her sole aim is to get out alive - until, by chance, she learns the identity of Vess’s next intended victim, a faraway innocent only she can save. Driven by a newly discovered thirst for meaning beyond mere self-preservation, Chyna musters every inner resource she has to save an endangered girl...as moment by moment, the terrifying threat of Edgler Foreman Vess intensifies.

Another good Koontz novel. No so the narrator.

I know it is probably just me, but what is with grown women (and some men) dropping the "T" sound in words like kitten (Ki-Uhn) or button (buh-un) or saying important as "impor-uhn"? I see it in teenage girls and the glottal stop or T-glottization and a form of this in other cultures, but in a voice actor? "She cou-un shoot him through the cur-uhn." This speech pattern made me cringe every time I heard it (which was frequent) and pulled me out of the storyline. Narrator has a lovely voice, but these types of pronunciations made her sound a bit uneducated (though I'm sure that isn't the case). I'll avoid this narrator in the future...but I hope someone will give her a heads up since this is obviously her profession (unless she sticks to books where a teenage girl is the main character).

Good story. Reader, meh

I liked the story enough to put up with the reader. I didn’t like her performance and she mispronounced some words.

Enjoyable except for ...

The performer swallow "t's" mid word. Really annoying habit.
The story was mediocre. I expected more from such a talented author.

Boring and repetitive

I love Dean Koontz but this was a disappointment. He delved into the psychological background on everything and then did it again. I think I skipped most of the book. The last 2 hours were wonderful and interesting.

Non-stop thrills

Listened to this book in one setting. Intensity is the perfect title for this book. I have been a Koontz fan for years and this one is a winner.

Amazing Story

This is my favorite book by Dean Koontz. It’s a unique well written story. The chemistry (for lack of a better word) between the two main characters is quite interesting. I would definitely recommend this book. It’s nicely preformed by the narrator as well.

Great book

Great book!, This is one of my favorite authors. Narrator was tolerable. Bad barrators make me want to stop listening. Seems like a crap-shoot these days.
