About this listen

The enemy is coming. The enemy is already here.

For years they’ve prepared, plotted, and planned. For years they’ve waited to strike from above and below.

Earth is under siege. The enemy covers the landscape. Proxima is unharmed. But that’s about to change.

No armies can stop this menace, and no defenses can slow the advance. We are scattered and isolated. We are ignorant and weak. No help is coming. No help remains...or does it?

Old heroes will sacrifice everything. New heroes will rise.

Took a few chapters to get into this one, only because it's a different narrator then the rest.

New narrator threw me off.

I really enjoyed this book. I am now waiting for the next book to release on Audible. The story is fast paced and exciting. As usual, R.C.Bray does a fantastic job of narrating.

Great book

Great book but I like the reader from the first books better. It was still good but probably just used to the first guy.

After reading the first book in this series I worked out there are a stack of back stories you need to read to really have any hope of knowing WTF is going on in this one. So this book made a lot more sense. I’m not convinced the enemy is realistic, given their power and goals they should have zero problem turning us all into drooling slaves without the need for bloodshed. But hey, it’s a good story with great characters. Recommend you read it.

I'm writing this review after finishing books 1 & 2, bur before starting book 3. Book 1 was a 4.5 to 5 star ordeal, as many of these are, especially with an all star narrator like Lord Bray! Book 2 was a bit of a let down...sometimes the stories fail t build on the promise from the first book, as often times happens in movie sequels. I'm interested enough to finish this series and will listen to book 3. If you don't have 5 star expectations then you'll be in for a solid enjoyable 9 hours or so. Lord Bray makes everything better and without him, this might be a 3 star story. Bray is that good.

One small nit to pick with The Great One...he changed the voice of Sherrif Duke to his "main protagonist voice" (where he used that voice for Ike at first in book 1, and then the colonel (sergeant promoted) later in book 1 (he used a guffer voice for sherrif duke in book 1 and reversed that in book 2). In book 2 he flip flopped these...I guess because sherrif Duke was more of the main character (perhaps carrying into book 3? I don't know...just wondering out loud). I prefer voices to remain the same from the same narrator, and rarely does Bray do this. But this was one series he did so. it made it a bit hard to follow for most of book 2 after getting used to who's voice was whose in book 1. but alas, lord Bray is so far beyond 5 stars that I can't dock any points for this minor preference! Rock on Lord Bray...and hope your voice gets better soon!

on to book 3!

Solid 4 star mil sci-fi, propped up by Lord Bray

There are parts of this story that are just hard to make it through because they straight up made me cry mid-shift. Gripping story. R. C. Bray sounds different from Jonathan Davis but that does not make it bad.

…though listening to Max laughing is jarring.
