About this listen

A collection of chilling tales that are "equal parts H. P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe". Ghosts, murderers, monsters, and more lurk within the pages of It Came from Anomaly Flats.

The oddest little town in the Midwest has a thousand demented stories to tell...some of them are horrifying enough to send shivers down the strongest of spines. There’s the tale of a man whose utter fear of germs sends him plummeting to the depths of depravity, and the victims he takes with him; the story of a couple escaping Missouri to fulfill their California dreams who take an innocent detour and find themselves trapped in the most unexpected of nightmares instead; the legend of a demonic creature who thrives on human flesh, which may be more reality than fiction.

In this first collected volume of chill-inducing stories from everyone’s favorite trans-dimensional town, you’ll find reason enough to question your own sanity, even as you try to reassure yourself that things like this only happen in stories.

Don’t they?

Welcome to Anomaly Flats.

Fantastic Short Stories From a Terrifying Town

I LOVED Anomaly Flats. I couldn't get enough, so I bought this book. I was a bit bummed that it's short stories instead of a longer story, but the stories are fantastic! While some are better than others, they are all at least good, if not great.

For those new to Anomaly Flats, you are better off starting with the novel. This book will make more sense if you read the novel first.

The stories themselves are a little darker than the original book. Some of them have more weight to them, and they all are pretty grim.

There are a few twists here and there, but they are a bit predictable. That can be forgiven due to the fantastic writing. I love the author's use of language and metaphor.

While some stories could take place anywhere else, most of the stories use Anomaly Flats to their advantage. While being more rooted in realism than the novel, the craziness of Anomaly Flats is often used as a device to help the story along and plays well with the themes. The one with the boy and his baseball loving dad is a perfect example of a story that uses Anomaly Flats, but is also a heartbreaking story that sticks with you on its own accord.

I LOVED the voice actress for the novel, so I was worried about the new actor. He did a fantastic job. very happy with the emotion he put in, and the overall sound of his voice.

Like with most short stories books, some are better than others, but this book earned a 5 star based on the whole package. Definitely worth a listen while we wait to see if there is a full sequel!

Good short stories, read the Novel First!

I listened to ANOMALY FLATS the Novel and then jumped straight over to this collection. It fills in a few of the gaps in the novel and tells the facts (and fates) of a few characters. Along with a few short stories that could have been told elsewhere, but make total sense in The Flats.
The Novel itself is fun and clever and the fans of GRAVITY FALLS, Twin Peaks and The Twilight Zone will find familiar ground here but it's a good place to be. Stop in at the Night Owl and try the pancakes. ... but only drink the Decaff.
