About this listen

Breaking curses. Battling witchcraft. Revenge. All in a day's work for Ozzy Turner, folk wizard.

Is a witch throwing curses your way? Something scary scratching at your window in the night? Then, I've got just the charm for you.

Mostly, though, I find things. Lost treasures, missing loved ones...if you need something found, I'm your guy.

So, when a grieving father hired me to track down a family heirloom stolen by a sticky-fingered hobgoblin, I was happy to help.

No one was supposed to wind up dead. Especially not me. But they made a mistake when they put a bullet in my stomach and left me for the worms. They didn't bury me deep enough....

If you like Jim Butcher, Kevin Hearne, Shayne Silvers, M.D. Massey, or Orlando A. Sanchez, then you'll love taking a trip to the sleepy town of Lost Falls, where not everything is as it seems.

Every once in awhile there is a marriage of author and narrator. This was one !

Loved everything about this book.

if you enjoy this style of book this is a solid choice the story is coherent. the author sticks to his own lore unlike others in this category that contradicts them selves. the main character is very well done however the background characters could use some love as they are a bit one dimensional. the narration wasn't great but wasn't bad either. over all it was worth my time and I recommend giving it a shot.

solid choice

An adventure that starts off as a easy job for a Cunning Man. Everything is not as it seems and it all revolves around. Child that was taken by Goblins. So many twists and turns that it keeps you captivated right to the end. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

I was glad to see this book in audio format, The narrator did a good job, but I thought there wasn't quite enough snark for Ozzy. I can't say who I would rather have done the narration though.
still, a great book and a very good performance.

Almost perfect

Enjoyed this book

Well written, good language, decent narration. After reading other books in this genre it was more suspenseful mystery than fantasy book. It was little sad, dark and heavy. The narrator added to the glum atmosphere, even though he did the good job made the book sound even more depressing. I wouldn't mind little more light both in the voice and in the story.

Good, but little sad.

I went back and forth in the beginning. It seemed the MC was experienced one moment then not another. About half way through he pulled it together. Still felt iffy about him. But goodness, the other characters were great. Their personalities kept my interest to the end and The Dealer is tops on my list.

Ozzy is a "cunning man" - a necromancer of sorts, not quite a sorcerer but one who can use occult energy. He is hired by a distraught father to find a baby who ahs been snatched from its cradle. Except things aren't as they seem.

I was shocked when Ozzy gets shot and buried (no big spoiler, its almost in the the blurb) since I had forgotten what the blurb had said. I was pleased when he was saved and almost expected his saviour. I thought, "Right! We know who the villain is! Lets get him." Except it wasn't who I thought it was. And then there was another twist and a double back and another twist. Like a good mystery novel, every time when you think you know where the plot is going you get blind-sided by a twist! I loved every moment of this book.

I'm definitely going to continue this series.

First off, this being an audiobook, I found Gary Bennett's performance to be fantastic. He was well timed, differentiated characters, and left me in the story.

In terms of story, I was not let down, by any means. With echos of Koontz, King, and Rowling, we have a journey through small town magical america that is going to be remembered. I look forward to the next installment in audiobook. Much as I want to learn more about the narrator, the Dealer seems to be the standout role. The use of the cunning folk in such a way is an interesting delve into historical magical ideas, and it leaves me wondering where it will go next.

I requested a free review copy of this audiobook, with expectation of my honest review. Thank you for allowing me to listen to and review the book!
