About this listen

My high school sweetheart, the boy who shattered my heart, is back in our small town, and there will be no avoiding him for the next two weeks....

Only there is nothing boyish about Miguel Fernandez. The NFL's best rookie defensive end is even more wickedly handsome than he was four years ago—tall, with abs for days, all that unruly hair, and eyes so dark they swallow you whole.

And that's exactly what he's doing every time our paths cross.

I shouldn't let it affect me. After all, there was a good reason why we broke up in the first place. But no matter how much I try to put some distance between us, it's impossible to stay away when our childhood friends are getting married.

Not only is he attending the wedding. He is in the wedding—the best man to my maid of honor. There will be no escaping the boy who destroyed me completely with his betrayal or stopping the secrets I kept from coming out....

It Should Have Been Us is intended for mature listeners.

Loved it!

Loved to see Kate and Emmitt’s love story hea from kiss me first! I haven’t read that series in a while and when I put two and two together I was so happy! Loved to see the best friends back together. Miguel and Rebecca have gone through a lot separately and together. This was such a beautiful story! Can’t wait for the next book!

The story is not bad, but sadly, I would advise against getting the audio version

The story was a good one, although it felt like it dragged a bit, and to be completely honest, I was annoyed with Becky and the way that she blamed Miguel for their breakup.

Becky and Miguel are high school sweethearts, and when Miguel leaves to college and asks Becky to go with him, she says she can't leave home. To be fair, she has a very valid reason as to why she can't leave with him. The only problem is that she never told Miguel this reason. I honestly think this story has the worst case of miscommunication I have ever read, and to prove my point we later have Becky walking away from Miguel and their relationship of years because of a misunderstanding without even giving Miguel a chance to explain himself.

I usually love second chance romance, but I honestly feel like there was a lot of unnecessary heartbreak, mostly because of lack of communication. I'm not usually one to get bothered by this, but this time, it was just too much.

Unfortunately, I feel like the narrators didn't do the story justice. I personally don't mind dual narration, but in this case it was difficult to follow along without mixing up the characters, and at one point one of the narrators used a female voice for a male character's dialog.

Quote: “We don’t have forever, but we have right now. That’s the only thing we can have.”
