About this listen

Bruce Tulgan shows bosses how to get things done by solving corporate America’s huge problem with simple, effective management.

In this call-to-arms, consultant and speaker Bruce Tulgan puts his finger on biggest problem in corporate America: No one wants to be the boss. No one wants to take responsibility and tell their employees what to do and how to do it. More importantly, no one wants to follow up and make sure that assignments were done and done right.

Making a clear distinction between managers who interfere with the work at hand and managers who are simply afraid to take charge by setting clear goals and evaluating work, Tulgan opens eyes to the undisciplined workplace that is frustrating workers at every level. Giving a clear eight-step path to becoming a strong manager, Tulgan will empower anyone to be the best bosses they can be.

Time to get uncomfortable

As a manager over the last 15 years I wish this book would’ve caught me 15 years ago. I’ve used this book for the past 5 to 10 years but rereading it every 2 to 3 how to give your perspective and become the manager your people need you to be.

Some excellent information and a good refresh

I wasn’t sure for the first few chapters, it seemed a little blah, but once I got a few chapters in, it had a lot of really good reminders, and some new twist on ideas that I have heard, but never used. Really a good read!

Good but basic

Good book with great information but mostly the basics of leadership. Did have a different approach to being detailed and not calling it micro-management.

The myth of the "micromanager".

The importance of being a responsible manager is key. Good management requires effort. The book does get repetitive however.

Under v Micro Manage a worthwhile distinction

Great start with well described and analysed concepts... then, imho, drifted into the too theoretical and impractical.
