Jacob is a short story that can be chilling. It is like walking into a dark room and reaching for a light switch, only to have something brush your hand before you do so. Loss is a significant theme, the loss of loved ones, loss of safety, and the loss of self to an entity that is doing it's best to terrify you. How can you feel safe in a house that does everything in its power to creep you out, drive you mad, or kill you? The story is in line with Stephen King, but has some predictable elements to it.

Keller intones the mood, and makes the story more macabre with every breath. He is a fantastic narrator for this kind of story, and he helps to build the drama as he goes.

This is a good short story to fill about an hour and a half of your time. Just don't do it alone, nor in the dark.

A moody chiller
