About this listen

After 18 long years of being forced to suppress and control all emotion, Lia begins to learn the truth of her world. Will the very people she’s been brainwashed to see as her enemies, become the individuals who can save her from her Leaders?

Love is the emotion Lia Dean’s people fear the most. When she’s finally fighting back, it may be the one thing that’s capable of saving her.

I never thought when I began listening to this book, that it would speak to the political, cultural and moral climate of today’s world and to the increasingly troublesome divisiveness and lack of understanding among the people of not only our world, but also of our country and even our families, who are so powerfully influenced by external voices, preaching as self-proclaimed authorities on every topic, guided to the most susceptible by algorithms, many of which are formulated with self serving or even nefarious goals in mind.

It’s scary to see so many being manipulated and enticed to draw ever closer to the Joha spoken of in this insightful book, which results in an existence that would be rightfully be described as hell on earth.

After testing several speeds, I chose to listen to the majority of this book at two times normal speed. This was not to get through the book faster, but for me personally, seemed right.

Although it’s strongest appeal, but certainly not it’s only appeal, may be to a young teenage girl, I believe it truly is a book that will make anyone, at any age, think, profoundly. You will see in it the problems we face today, their root cause and at least the basis, or more, for their solutions, in a captivating, highly imaginative story.

It does get quite violent at times and would no doubt, earn a PG13 rating for violence and intensity, but it’s a book I personally would be happy for my teenage children or grandchildren to read.

EXCELLENT! Very timely for our world in 2020.
