About this listen

A team of grumpy old vets answer the call to war and undertake an impossible rescue, when a secret mission, deep in hostile alien territory, goes terribly wrong.

The US Army’s Zebra Company has been tasked with an impossible, secret mission to establish a presence on planet Fimil Prime. With a no-holds-barred budget, and the help of friendly alien allies, Mission Black Turtle is launched, sending the fortress-class Angry Arc and 200 of Earth’s finest soldiers into the great unknown.

A living embodiment of SNAFU, the mission falls off the rails when the highly advanced Quarr challenge Zebra Company’s arrival by fielding a host of genetically engineered warriors to ruin the day.

Cut off from supplies and reinforcements, a beaten and beleaguered Zebra Company barely survives as a well-supplied Quarr army wages a grueling war of attrition, taking unimageable losses to run humanity off planet.

Never ones to back down from a challenge, Albert Jenkins and his elite platoon of grumpy old vets mount up again, bringing their own brand of sarcastic justice to Fimil Prime. The big question? What can a platoon of old vets do against an army of genetically engineered aliens?

It’s a question AJ and his friends are all too happy to answer.

Buy Junkyard Commandos today, and kick the Quarr back to parts unknown.

this has been a favorite series of mine since I discovered it every installment has been amazing and this one is no exception to that I love the story of Albert Jenkins and all of his companions and can relate to AJ on several aspects

an amazing book in an amazing series.

Very narrowly focused plot. It seems like the storyline is transitioning to a new perspective. Not a lot of plot development and new characters introduced. That being said, listening to the book was like having a drink with with old friends and catching up on our adventures. Great narration!

Feels transitional

This book in particular did not make much sense overall. Feels like it was written by a different person… someone that was unfamiliar with the books that came before it.

I loved the other books. I nearly hated this one. I might not return for future installments. More’s the pity.

Meh… 😡

The start of this series was enjoyable, book six was. eh. Though this book ended the series for me. I've no longer got an interest in how things progress or turn out.

Unnecessary drama, characters making choices that are unrelateable, An odd view on how the military operates or would in this situation. .... but the worst was the editing or how the chapters integrated with one another. very disjointed and terrible continuity.

Losing its way.

The story is as entertaining as all the others but it feels like there was a book between 6 & 7 that got missed. Several bits caught my attention that changed between books with no explanation.

Book skipped?

I like the series mostly. But the abrupt switch from the style of story being told between book 6 and this one was jarring to say the least. This book doesn't fit in with any of the established character personalities. The sudden addition of other characters without a story to justify their existence leaves me having to hang on every word just to get a fix on who they are and what they're doing as well as why. The whole thing basically feels like the author has omitted at least one book from the series. possibly two. I do t like it The narrator does an excellent job. but the story is out of time with the series. If I could give the author zero stars for this book I would.

Not consistent with the overall story arc.

I have really enjoyed this series up until this book. I've recommended it to so many people. This book felt like it was written by a different author. I love the characters in these stories. The men and women, and aliens, and their history and interaction with each other. However the newest characters brought into this book are annoying and don't have many redeeming qualities. They feel like someome forced the author to include them last minute to increase the page count. No real background stories that help us care about them. They aren't relatable at all and I truly hope they don't return in the next book. What a letdown from the prior books.

A letdown
