About this listen

Love covers a multitude of sin. A stolen kiss ignites a fire that burns all the way from Texas to New York City. Torn apart by war, rejection, and a letter with news she never wanted, Lacey Rose takes her shredded heart and runs.

Charley figures something isn't right, but is duty-bound to the Confederacy until a deathbed order sets in motion a series of events that test his love, honor, and commitment to the breaking point.

Can the two lifelong friends see past the pain to finally realize God's plan for them to be more than just kin?

Having read several in this series by Caryl McAdoo, I was not disappointed in this book. The book continues in the series keeping you wanting more. You continue to get to know the characters--their hopes, dreams, sorrow, faith, and more. The seemingly love story has a hard time starting, and you're wondering where it will lead. Very enjoyable reading!

This book was a little harder for me to get into the story.
It was difficult for me to understand why the Buckmeyers fought for slavery when they were totally against it. I wonder how that made Jewell and Chester feel.
Laura way over reacted to Lacey kissing Charlie and I didn't like the way May treated Lacey. It just seemed out of character for both women.
Lacey and Charlie both jumped in to physical relationships with others they were not married to. The consumption of alcohol and the consequences of the use of it bothered me.
Charlie marrying Lacey but still having strong feelings for Mara was a little hard to swallow.
I love the redemption that Lacey finally found and the fact they found each other. I will miss Wallace and a little light has gone out of series with his death.

Least favorite of a good series! (Spoiler alert)

How devious and backstabbing Jack was! User!
I appreciated some retribution for characters from the previous book -kudos. It was so frustrating watching Lacey and Charlie try to find each other again and the liaisons along the way??? I didn't care for the excessive finger pointing and trickery from the heroine, when she was just as culpability for the same sins as the hero. She was worse because she didn't come clean with her faux pax. smh. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review.

While some of the other books had some of these things going on... this book had a lot of premarital sex, adultery and drinking in it. While I understand the precept of forgiveness and redemption, I did not enjoy reading all about this. Thankfully this was all just spoken and not detailed but it still left me disappointed in the book.

The author gave me a code for this audio book and I am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Enjoyable
