Santa, Kelpies, and martians fight in a GRAVY BOWL

Ok, ok, it wasn't a gravy bowl, but a flying saucer that just looked like one. Still, considering the number of sea related creatures in the tale (a kelpie, part-time mermaid, and ghostly sea captains) I'm going to say it should have been a gravy boat!! Otherwise, this story was flawless. It was perfectly funny and irreverant, replete with inappropriate costumes, a stinky half pantsed Santa, and fussin' and a cussin' Krampus.

It picks up just a wee bit after Kelpie Dreams right on Christmas eve. Santa has suffered a bit of a set back and his a full blown case of Seasonal Affective Disorder. Lady MacBeth decides to give the not so jolly elf a much needed hand, and the antics just go from there. This is a very lighthearted romp, and is fun and silly, and yet it still manages to show real christmas spirit in the form of a personal self sacrifice. This story might be short, but it packs a lot of whomp in it, and each character's personality is fully realized. I've only read Vernon's Kelpie Dreams and Harry's Mermaid, in addition to this but I really appreciate his style and sense of humor. He is definately a writer I will be watching out for in the future. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review. So take my word for it, this is some fine fun writing.

Oh, and let us not forget our awesome narrator, Cheyenne Bizon. She is soooo good at being Lady MacBeth that I think she is actually channeling her from somewhere in the ether. She really can tell a story, and she makes a good match for Vernon's writing style.

If you read Kelpie Dreams you will thoroughly enjoy this short story as well.
