About this listen

FBI profiler Jace Valchek's ticket home from the twisted parallel universe where she's been called to duty hinges on the capture of serial killer Aristotle Stoker - and an alliance with a sorcerer known as Asher. The problem: Asher has joined forces with some of the most dangerous creatures Jace has ever encountered. The solution: There is none, without Asher's help.

Jace's goal seems simple enough - to get her man, like always. But just hours after she arrives in Vegas, she's abducted...and she isn't even sure who the real enemy is. Now Jace has to wonder if she's the predator or the prey in a very dangerous game that could change not only her fate, but the world's. Meanwhile, a serial killer is still on the loose. And time has already run out....

Love this series

Great book and narrator. Can't wait to listen to the next book. This series is so consuming.

love the narrator

this one was hard to get through there was just too much going on. the others were good and I'm hoping the rest of them are better. the narrator is awesome and can make any story good I believe. I wish there was a little romance in some of these though. heading for the next book

Fix the genre category for this series: Confusing!

I love this series. The story line is funny, original and really ingenuous and Johanna Parker is AWESOME as a narrator. It takes place in a parallel universe where Vampires and other supernaturals make up most of the population leaving less the 10% human. But is regards to what another Audible Member wrote in their review about the genre of this book, I got a little confused when they mentioned this book was a romance. So I looked at the first book they have it classified as a Mystery / Thriller, yes and no, being there's these supernatural characters, oh and the alternate universe. It's more of a Sci-fi /Fantasy. Ok the 2nd book is classified as a Sci-Fi / Fantasy, The 3rd book, A Romance? And then the 4th book again back to the Mystery Thriller family. I feel very confident saying that all 4 four books (in the series as of now) all belong in the Sci-Fi / Fantasy catagory.

A little of track... but still really good.

Where does Killing Rocks rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

In this series, this book rank lasts so far. Please don't take that as discouragement to enjoy the series though, please! (See below comments)

Any additional comments?

I highly recommend reading/listening to the books in this (and any) series in order. Though I didn't love the main plot of this book there were still important things going on that fall into the main plot of the series overall. This book felt like the series took a left turn and got a little lost before coming back on track for the next book. There are some important things in this book though that impact the world of the series itself and I feel will have more impact as the series goes on. The main character is still kick ass, smart ass and gets herself into trouble along the way so the story is enjoyable... just a little off for me from where I think the series was going (and where I know and like where it goes in the next book).

Too Much Information

Any additional comments?

DD Barant does an amazing job with building the world of this series with details and consistency in his logic. This becomes a slight problem with this book. There is a another alternate world introduced (for this book only), and Barant provides details of the population and culture, but also a whole story of creation. It's brilliant, but too much information to process while listening. There are small sections that can be glossed over while listening that won't take anything away from the story.
It's not my favorite in the series, but Killing Rocks is still strong on entertainment, and should not be skipped. Background on Jace and why she, in particular, was chosen to be brought to this alternate world is included and important to the overall series arc.

Off the Main Track With This One

I really enjoyed both of the first two books of this series, but this one was a little fragmented with the alternate dimensions. I still enjoyed listening to Johanna Parker, but had to push myself a little to get through this story. Wish there had been more interaction with Gally! I also enjoy Jace's interaction with Charley, her partner. Hope the next book will come out in audiobook as well! SOON?!

f

Where does Killing Rocks rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

eight on a scale of one to ten.

What did you like best about this story?

Charlie, Gally, . I love the world that he has built. I love the alternative mythology.

What about Johanna Parker’s performance did you like?

She is very good at the voices. Although the Mafia guys are a little too cartoony for me...

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When she shot Charlies

Any additional comments?

I do not understand why some reviews say that this book was somehow out of kilter from the first two. Parallel universe - Check! Evil Sorcerer gunning for Jace - Check! Comic book elements - check! Fighting bad guys - Check! I really enjoyed it and it filled in some blanks. I am not sure how the people who skipped three and didn't feel that they missed anything anything..KNOW that they didn't miss anything...after all...they skipped the book...I just finished four and I think four was off track. After three I couldn't wait until I could get my hands on four. After four I am not sure I want to listen to five. . Charlie wasn't there for most of the book...but that was vital to the storyline and made for some nice suspense. One the other hand - I really didn't like four and thought it was off base. No evil sorcerers. No comic books. No alternative universe travel...

As a side note. I tend to enjoy books with four elements. 1. bad guys/mystery to solve. 2. strong female character 3.Paranormal elements. 4.. Romantic relationship of the main character large focus.

I prefer series that focus on one character and am willing to overlook lack of one of those elements above if the rest are strong enough.

This book is NOT a romance book by any stretch of the imagination. Unless the series has a drastic shift the only "Romance" involves Jace having crushes on various men around her and every once in a while sleeping with one and then wondering if she should have a relationship with them.

The only books with time travel that I have ever enjoyed have been Lynn Kurland books and Diana Gabaldon books. As a general rule I HATE time travel/parallel universe stories.

My favorite books that have similarities to these books are the CE Murphy, Jeanine Frost, Carrie Vaughn, Patricia Briggs books.

Because of the lack of a good romantic element so far I would personally not rank this book as high as these. But there are more books..so I am hopeful....

Interesting Read

I don't usually read male written romances but this one isn't bad. Very thin on the romance side but an entertaining story.
