Publisher's summary

The country's only celebrity werewolf, late-night radio host Kitty Norville prefers to be heard, not seen. But when she's invited to testify at a Senate hearing on behalf of supernaturals, her face gets plastered on national television. Kitty has been in hot water before, but jumping into the D.C. underworld brings a new set of problems - and a new set of friends and enemies, including the vampire mistress of the city; a super-hot Brazilian were-jaguar; and a paranoid, Bible-thumping senator who wants to expose Kitty as a monster. Kitty quickly learns that in this city of dirty politicians and backstabbing pundits, everyone's itching for a fight.

Ludicrous with unimaginative villains.

I don’t like how the author uses rape and kidnapping as fictional themes. The emotional wounds caused by such occurrences in real life would necessitate a stronger emotional impact on the character.

The religious zealot as villain is way over done these days. It’s as if Christians are the only acceptable/ PC bad guys. (The Mercy Thompkins series does better in both regards.). The idea that a any public person would violate someone’s civil rights in such a public manner is unbelievable.

Loved it!!!

This audio book kept me interested the whole time. Looking forward to the next book in this series. I've listened to many books narrated by Marguerite and always enjoy her performance.

Good premise, terrible reader

Like the premise and the series so far... however, the reader is very distracting! If I continue this series, think I'll just get the book.

hang on; it just starts slow

I loved the last 25% of the book and am glad that I hung in there. I had difficulty connecting with Kitty; she calls herself a submissive werewolf, but never takes advice she's given, which doesn't sound submissive to me. she almost deliberately ticks off people in power. My best description of her character so far is actually adolescent, since she is trying to decide who she is by defying the expectations of the parental figures. Adolescents rebel, and as an early 20's character going through a major developmental change, that makes sense to me. I like the fact that the story doesn't revolve around romance, but around the central character.
This book started slow for me, but the last 25% was worth listening to the defiant whining and selfish behavior she begins with. The book goes in an unexpectedly real direction, where you could really connect the narrative to real life. She made me think, and the narrative is particularly apropos given our current political culture. I will definitely be reading the next one.

This one has three people with foreign accents at least, and one was Hispanic, but I would like to see more diversity in characters. This is throughout much of the genre, with the exception of Patty Briggs and Faith Hunter, in my experience.

Good Paranormal story

Good storyline,if you like sci-fi & parnormal stories this is a good series... Kitty goes from a scared little submissive wolf to a strong willed and very independant alpha wolf.

Kitty fan!

I am downloading Book 3 as we speak! This series is very entertaining. carrie Vaughn has done a great job of refreshing the "usual" sci fi stuff, and giving us unique perspective from a werewolf who wants to retain her humanity above all else.

Add Marguerite Gavin as narrator, and you have a smooth and enjoyable listening experience!

The 2nd book is better..

First book was ok, so I went for the 2nd. It was better than the 1st one. I'm glad I got it, but really wasn't inspired to get the 3rd. If I am in need of a book and don't have anything else, I would go for the 3rd one. Kitty was more likable in this book and I cared more about her and her story. Narration is still on the bland side, but still ok. Not a deal breaker.

Just ok....

This was an all right book, but I struggled to stick with it. By the end I was just ready for it to be over. I found myself looking in my library while listening to the ending to see what I could start next. Really nothing surprising or engaging and not much romance either.
