Publisher's summary

Before #1 New York Times best-selling author Patricia Briggs created her two hugely successful urban fantasy series, Mercy Thompson and Alpha & Omega, she wrote her debut fantasy epic, Masques. Newly revised and expanded, and available in audio for the first time, Masques arrives in our store just in time, with the fourth book in this series, Wolfsbane, coming soon.

After an upbringing of proper behavior and oppressive expectations, Aralorn fled her noble birthright for a life of adventure as a mercenary spy. Her latest mission involves spying on the increasingly powerful sorcerer Geoffrey ae'Magi. But in a war against an enemy armed with the powers of illusion, how do you know who the true enemy is – or where he will strike next?

Katherine Kellgren (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies), one of Audible's favorite narrators and one of the premier voices of science fiction and fantasy, sweeps listeners away on this engrossing adventure.

A good story! Great narrator!

I really really really like Patricia Briggs' stories! I LU-HUV the Mercy Thompson series! I have them all on audiobook and really appreciate that she gets really good narrators for her books... like she cares about this audio-book fan-base. This is a solid book and Patricia does a foreword in it explaining where this series fits into her career. I still think this is a solid story and I really hope she writes some more in this series. I think they will only get better with her experience.

Wonderful Story

This was a wonderful and entertaining stroy. Kept me captivated and wanting more. Skip the intro about how and why the author wrote the book; it was because of that I deducted a star.

Story was awesome.

Downloading the book had sequence issues. It would not be where the narrator would say it was on.

Good book, less than good performance

Probably a matter of taste, but I got so tired of listening to the grating, nasal voice, that I gave up after 30 minutes and read the book in stead.

Awesome

Love this story and the characters!! I'm always hesitant about starting a new series by the author of another I like, but I have truly enjoyed this one and look forward to the rest of the story!!!!

Diamond in the rough

I was browsing for something to read, and came across this gem in the discount bin. I bought it without a lot of review and figured it was worth the $2 price tag. I tried and tried to read it and kept getting interrupted and couldn't develop a connection with the Aralorn character and put the book back on the shelf. Several years later, I saw the audible version available on CD at a deeply discounted price, and bought it. After the authors introduction that it "wasn't her best work", I was ready to put it away again. But having purchased it twice, decided to solider through to the end. As it turns out, I love the characters, in spite of the under developed writing, and have listened to this story many times. The interplay between Aralorn and Wolf is very dynamic and the tried and true story of good overcoming evil is well done. A great read for anyone wanting a light story to wile away a few hours.

Story is okay but the narration of it is lacking

I would have liked this much more had there been a different narrator... she killed it for me... don't think I can do the second one since it's the same narrator.

Narrator got annoying...

In her attempts to 'spice up' the tense moments ended up simply yelling uncomfortably loud (had to turn down the volume several times) and fast. Very distracting, not achieving the desired effect. Otherwise the characterization of voices was pretty good.

Glad the author gave preamble to underline that this is an early effort of hers - as such, I am much more prepared to continue the series based on the fact I have really enjoyed her other books.

Enjoyable

Ok I don’t know why some people gave this such low reviews I got caught up in the book from the first chapter it had just enough adventure and I am loving the slow romance that all ma Briggs books start off with I honestly can say I love this as much as mercy Thompson series they may Briggs also writes
