About this listen

As Denver adjusts to a new master vampire, Kitty gets word of an intruder in the Denver werewolf pack's territory, and she investigates the challenge to her authority. She follows the scent of the lycanthrope through the mountains where she is lured into a trap, tranquilized, and captured. When she wakes up, she finds herself in a defunct silver mine: the perfect cage for a werewolf.

Her captors are a mysterious cult seeking to induct Kitty into their ranks in a ritual they hope will put an end to Dux Bellorum. Though skeptical of their power, even Kitty finds herself struggling to resist joining their cause. Whatever she decides, they expect Kitty to join them in their plot... willingly or otherwise.

meh

I've been a fan of most of the books in this series, but I'm getting a little bored of the Roman saga. I liked the series more when there was a different "villain" adventure for every book.

Not the best in the series

I listen to the book thinking it was going to be the worst in the series because of the bad reviews but it was not as bad as I thought it would be. The book lets us find out a little more and it seemed necessary to move the story along in the right direction. My only complaint is I wish it was a little shorter and quicker to the point.

Not a deep plot.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Limited story line in this one. The ending sets up a great idea for the next books and many potential plot lines. The majority of this book could have been accomplished with many fewer chapters and been a good element in a multiple plot-line book.

Not the best in the series, but important.

Things take a turn for Kitty when she’s kidnapped (again!) by people who think they have a way of getting rid of their shared nemesis, Roman – and this time for good.

Much like Books 05 and 06, Kitty in the Underworld is not one of my favorite in the series. It feels like a "bottle episode;" except that the majority of the time, Kitty is with previously unknown characters.

Most of the story takes place inside an abandoned silver mine -- so the setting is pretty confined and uninteresting. The characters who have kidnapped Kitty don't talk much, except in the most obscure terms. And, once again, the plot revolves around Roman without him even being around. Because Kitty is alone a lot, there is a ton of exposition. I wanted to smack Kitty upside the head when she found her way out of the mine, but then went back to her kidnappers. I get that defeating Roman is important, but can we say Stockholm Syndrome?

That being said, some really good things happen in this episode, like Kitty's connection with the first Regina Luporum. A lot of this book is set-up for the last two books in the series, so you don't want to skip it. It's the same good writing, the same characters, the same world, and the same great audio narrator; it's just isn't one of Kitty's more exciting adventures.

That's a good Kitty

Where does Kitty in the Underworld rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I would put it in the 60s of the thousand or so I have listened to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Cormac is and always will be my favorite.

Which scene was your favorite?

As not to spoil, I will just say the part when the woman is standing over Kitty's shoulder.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

I love the Kitty series. This was a good story that moved the overall arc along. In the end my only real complaint is that I wish it would have been longer. It was just way too short and I think it 'felt' more so because it was all in the same location. Pretty much that is what made it miss the five start rating. Of course Ms. Gavin is magnificent as always.

Good addition to the series

3-3.5 stars

This was a good story. I love the series and I liked this book however I wish the "Long Game" story line would move on and show some progression.

Kitty is checking out an intruder in her area when she's kidnapped. She's held captive in a silver mine and she has to figure out why she's been taken captive. The group that took her captive are 2 shifters, a witch and a vampire. They believe they have a plan to kill Dux Bellorum (from here referred to as DB) but they don't seem to have a clear view on current events and the resources DB has available to him.

Unfortunately their plan isn't what it should be since they don't realize DB's resources. Kitty tries to point out issues with their logic but does end up trying to help them carry it out, thinking that if they can actually kill him it would be worth it. There's a big fight but they're not able to accomplish their goal and so no real progress is made in the "Long Game" story line.

One downer is with Kitty being kidnapped and in a silver mine for most of the book, there's not a lot of interaction with her pack/friends/Ben and we only get to hear her do 1 show. The situation gets interesting however and things end on a high note with Kitty saved and back safe at home with Ben, Cormic and the pack. Unfortunately they end the book in the same place it started, still working on finding a way to stop the "Long Game". I'm looking forward to the next book in the series and hoping we see more progression in that book. :D

Had potential...but my least fave of the series...

Would you listen to Kitty in the Underworld again? Why?

Meh....maybe...but its a slow starter.

What other book might you compare Kitty in the Underworld to and why?

Kitty is unique...but her series reminds me of the Cat and Bones series...but werewolves instead of vamps!

What does Marguerite Gavin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

MG is AWESOME!! she is one of my most fave narrators..

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

this book would not be a good movie...but this series would be a great tv show!

Any additional comments?

Least fave of the 12...but I still love Kitty and cant wait till the next one...if you are a Kitty fan...you will appreciate it...Kitty will always Rock in my book!! :)

A change of pace for Kitty

Kitty is kidnapped and persuaded to take part in a ritual to stop Dux Belloram. Interesting new characters are introduced. Magic plays a much larger role than in most previous books in the series.

Great story

The narrator is awesome and definitely makes the story more enjoyable. Kitty and friends never cease to entertain.
