About this listen

At the center of S. P. Miskowski's novel-length fairy tale are three restless girls, best friends stuck in the backwater of Skillute, Washington, in the late 1960s. Their neighbors and families are petty or poor, or both. They warn the girls not to wander into the dense forest. Something evil lurks there, people say. The girls are not convinced. During a playful oath, they wander too far into the woods. Their mistake unleashes a malignant spirit that terrorizes Skillute for the next 50 years.

Critic reviews

"Beautifully written and relentlessly suspenseful, it's a great book to curl up with on a cold winter's night. Just be sure to keep the doors locked and all the lights on!" (Lucy Taylor, The Silence Between the Screams)
"...more than a great read; it is a fascinating meditation on the nature of horror. There are supernatural elements to the book, yes, but the setting (an impoverished, ruined logging town) and the main characters (three school girls with hopes and dreams made improbable if not impossible by their realities) are a beautifully rendered commentary on the cyclical nature of real-world human tragedy." (Molly Tanzer, A Pretty Mouth)

You can sense the evil

Being from the PNW, it felt like this was happening in the woods where I played growing up. It brought back the feeling I had, the campfire ghost stories, the fear of not finding your way out of the woods after dark.

Small Town Horrors in the Pacific Northwest

I love this writer, and I love this book. KNOCK KNOCK crawls under your skin. It creeps into your nightmares. It is a haunting novel, full of secrets and childhood pacts and unforgiving curses. Come to Skillute, WA. Stay awhile!

Highly recommended!

Beware the woods, they’re dark and deep…

Story – 5.0 Stars
Narration – 4.5 Stars

“Knock, Knock" by S.P. Miskowski is about three young girls that go on a little adventure in some forbidden woods only to awaken something that will haunt their futures.

The story follows these girls as they become women and the character development is very good.

Once I got started on this story it held on. Tight! The pace was fairly steady with high points, a few shocks, some mysterious goings on, and a whole lot of weird!

The narrator did an excellent job. Her voice is pleasant and her characterizations were good.

Recommended!

A unique coming of age

With so many coming of age stories focused on boys and specifically centered around childhood, this was a unique take. It centers around three girls who perform a ritual to avoid pregnancy and motherhood. And of course, everything hits the fan after that lol. It read quickly and had some truly gross parts. Huge trigger warnings for animal cruelty and death.

Woke Trash.

Let me sum up. Men bad. Women good. In fact the protagonist murders children but those were bad male children. Seriously, not worth the paper it was printed on. Possibly the worst P. O. S. I've ever had the displeasure of reading that includes books assigned for classes from grade school through college. Oh, and it's not scary.
