About this listen

When the man you worshipped as a kid becomes your coach, it’s supposed to be the greatest thing in the world. Keywords: supposed to.

It didn’t take a week for twenty-seven-year-old Sal Casillas to wonder what she’d seen in the international soccer icon—why she’d ever had his posters on her wall, or ever envisioned marrying him and having super-playing soccer babies.

Sal had long ago gotten over the worst non-break-up in the history of imaginary relationships with a man that hadn’t known she’d existed. So she isn’t prepared for this version of Reiner Kulti who shows up to her team’s season: a quiet, reclusive shadow of the explosive, passionate man he’d once been.

Nothing could have prepared her for the man she got to know.

Or the murderous urges he brought out in her.

This was going to be the longest season of her life.

Male narrator is not for me.

I've loved this book for years, but I'm not a fan of some of the voicing the male narrator does. (Especially the cameo from Under Locke). I regret not purchasing the previous version before this one came out. Female narrator is great.

Love it!

I absolutely loved this!

Kulti is one of my all time favorite books and I’m so happy to have this new duet narrated version with these two amazing narrators! Both narrators did a wonderful job! So so good!!

Excellent performances

Great story and excellent performances. Kulti has been one of my favorite books for a while now, and this version is superb. The voice actors are two of the best I’ve heard, and they really brought the characters to life. I love duet narration & they didn’t disappoint.

Great story

Loved the Narrators and the story theme about Soccer and an up and coming female soccer player and the crush she has on her idol who ends up being the coach of her professional Soccer team. He’s a Grumpy famous soccer player and the irreverent interaction between the young woman and the famous soccer player had me chuckling throughout. Everything I want in a romance.

Amazing New Version

As a massive fan of the Callie version (I’ve listened to it at least 10 times) this is a great new adaptation. You just can’t compare it to Callie’s. If that one wasn’t out there, I think everyone would absolutely be obsessed with this version. The male narrator has to do so many accents, it’s so impressive to hear them all come to life in a male voice.

All that being said, this is a fantastic story with the classic MZ slow burn. It’s just so good. Sal grows up worshiping soccer phenomenon, Reiner Kulti. When he becomes her new assistant soccer coach, she finally realized what the phrase never meet your idols means.

Kulti is the ultimate grumpy a-hole and it is so much fun to watch his relationship with Sal develop. Don’t get me wrong their relationship goes up and down throughout the whole book, but as Sal will tell us, we always fight with the people we love the most.

This is my desert island book, and it is so much fun to now have 2 versions of the audio. 10/10 recommend picking this one up,

Tropes:
Coach/soccer player
Age gap (27 F and 39 M)
Sports romance (soccer)
Enemies to friends to lovers

Hands down one of the BEST slow burn sports romances ever!!

Wonderful voice acting with the exception that the female narrator occasionally would say Kulti like “cool-tee” and occasionally like “cult-tee” and that was distracting. Other than that, this audiobook was perfection, the dual narration was so much fun!

Still in love with it

When I saw that MZ was rerecording her books, I was crossing my fingers that Kulti would be one of them. I love Callie Dalton and think she's amazing. But there is something to be said about a man narrating the male voices. I loved this rerecording! This book is just a slow burn wonder. MZ is one of the absolute best at what she does! The narrators were great! I love that they both did accents perfectly, in my opinion. Overall, it was wonderful and I very much recommend this book. Thank you, MZ!

It’s Dramatized!!!

Fell in love with MZ’s books since I discovered Aiden and Van - found all her other books and then listened to all the audio versions. THIS version in particular was AMAZING. I absolutely loved that they were able to bring the book to life with the dramatized reading. It was like re-reading it for the first time because of how they were able to bring the characters to life - is how it sounds in my head when I’m reading! Anyways as usual for MZ 10/10 would recommend anytime anywhere!!

Story was great.

MZ’s stories are always good. The narration of the male lead kept me disengaging from the story. I couldn’t love the character even at the end.
