Publisher's summary
He burned me once.
This time, I won’t be the one consumed by the flames.
Torren King is rock-and-roll’s broodiest bachelor.
Mysterious, moody, and coveted by nearly everyone.
But to me, he’s just the sad boy who set fire to my heart,
then reduced me to ashes in the desert.
For four sweltering nights, I burned for him,
and he conquered my heart one whispered lyric at a time.
But on the fifth night, he shattered me in the way only a flawless rock god can:
irreparably, and with devastating finesse.
Four years later, the last place I expect to be is sitting before him,
reading through a contract with a pen poised in my fingertips.
A favor for a favor, he says.
A US tour and a fake relationship in exchange for the answer to all my problems.
I hate him. I hate that I need him.
And what I hate the most?
He doesn’t remember me. At all.
But despite the burning chemistry between us,
the rapidly blurring lines and the suffocating attraction,
He’s still the rock star who ruined me.
I refuse to let myself forget.

Brit Benson is an EPIC storyteller !!
Brit Benson continues to absolutely amaze me with her storytelling. Naturally, I was obsessed with Torren in book one, so seeing him move on from Savannah and get his own HEA was so so exciting (and deserved!!). Torren and Callie met at a music festival five years ago. His memory of the festival is hazy, but Callie’s is crystal clear, and she’s still nursing the heartache. But now Torren is the one in need of help, and he asks Callie to be his fake girlfriend (you know, pr and all that jazz). Fake dating, rockstar, annnnnd some suspenseful drama = one hell of a story. Stephen and Stella SLAAAAAYED this audio (and it’s duet hello!!). Stephen’s emotion? Unmatched. Absolutely recommend both Hometown Heartless books (read in order to avoid spoiling the series for yourself!).

Unforgettable story and narration!
This PHENOMENAL story is narrated in duet by Stella Hunter and Stephen Dexter. These two perfectly embodied Callie and Torren, and their performance elevated this captivating story to unimaginable heights. Their chemistry was palpable, and they highlighted every intense and emotionally charged moment while effectively conveying the pain, anger, and longing for our star crossed lovers.
Stella and Stephen captured all the angst, banter, tears, and steam and left no crumbs behind. They added so much grit, heart, and disposition to their deliverance that I could FEEL the absolute highs and the gut-wrenching lows when it came to Callie and Torren. So much so that it took my breath away. And once I finished, I immediately pressed play again.
Stella truly resonated Callie’s spunky and vibrant personality but also her hate and undeniable attraction toward Torren. She exuded emotion after emotion with so much compassion and brought every single feeling off the page with her indisputable talent. Stella truly out did herself with this performance, and it will forever leave a lasting impression on me.
Stephen, holy smokes! He was perfect for capturing our moody, mysterious, somber, misunderstood bassist. His voice added a richness to the many layers of Torren that left my heart swooning but also breaking. Chapter 35?!?! Make sure to have water and a fan on standby. But chapter 40?!?! Have tissues ready to go because you can really hear the pain, fear, and desperation in his voice.
And the Epilogue with the music and singing had me crying happy tears! It was a wonderful added bonus!
So what I’m trying to say with this very long review is that you NEED this audiobook in your life! It was an infinity star listen for me and one I will replay time and time again. And don’t forget to grab the extended epilogue from Brit’s website. You don’t want to miss it!

Be prepared to have all the feels
Ever read a book and just know you also need to listen to the audiobook? That was me with Of Heartbreak and Harmony. I recently learned I absolutely LOVE duet narration. The two narrators were on point for this book. They both did great with various character voices throughout.
This book is the kind you'll devour. Both reading and listening have had me hooked. I even delayed finishing the book both times just so I could avoid the inevitable book hangover. Gotta say, totally worth it! Do you need to read book 1 of the series, Between Never and Forever, before this book? No but I'd highly recommend it.
I'll try not to add any spoilers in my review.

The story takes place in the past and present. In the past, Callie and Torren first met while their respective bands were playing at ArtFusion. Torren is in an on again off again toxic relationship with Savannah Loveless (Sav), lead singer for The Hometown Heartless. After one of their explosive arguments, Torren sees Callie standing in the area, having witnessed the event.
The following day, Torren finds Callie in a beer tent. She's dressed as a phoenix. He ends up nicknaming her Firebird because of the getup. After they've talked for a few minutes she finds out he wants to make sure she won't talk to the paparazzi about what she saw earlier, which she'd never do. He invites her to meet him the next night in the art tent where he paints her into a human flame. He takes a picture with her phone and texts it to himself. Then he deletes the text thread leaving her without his number. When Callie realizes this, she's hurt. They end up hooking up later but then through lack of communication and making assumptions, they go their separate ways.
In the present day, Callie is working at a convenience store and a motel to help make ends meet. She loathes The Hometown Heartless. One day while at the pier with her sister Glory Bell and her dog Torren King the dog runs away so Callie chases him, shouting his name. Guess who's at the pier? The real Torren King! When Torren and Callie start talking, Callie can tell Torren has no recollection of meeting her in the past. They part their ways but not before the media takes pictures.
Weeks later, Torren is notified of a stalker of Sav. The stalker is not a fan of the relationship (real or not) between Torren and Sav. Sav is in a relationship that hasn't hit the media yet so Torren suggests he get a fake girlfriend for PR purposes. Since Callie was linked to him in the media recently, he chooses to ask her. Callie agrees to help but she's still upset that Torren doesn't remember her. She only agrees because the price is right for her.
As they start to spend time together on the road, Torren starts to remember random things from the past before the full memories return. They start to form a relationship when more secrets are revealed.
Oh, and did Dr. Jesse Hernandez (from the Better Love series) make a cameo in chapter 42? Why yes, yes he sure did!

Callie & Toren
This is the second book in a series and I was totally fine reading it on its own. The author always delivers on the emotional front, she writes some of the best angst and longing and this was no exception. It’s a great balance of complex emotions and steam, one chapter in particular had me sweating 🥵 Both narrators were fantastic, Callie has a big personality and Stella Hunter was perfect! Stephen Dexter was Toren, I can’t imagine hearing him any other way!

Such a great story
Brit Benson never disappoints. This was a reread for me and it was even better on audio. The narrators really brought the story to life. This was steamy and angsty and just so so good. You can read it as a standalone but I would read book one too (it’s just as good!)

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️
Narration: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What an emotional ride this story was. Truly fantastic from beginning to end, this book will hit you in all the feels. Right from the get go you feel the disdain and tension between the MCs. This is one of those stories that is going to stick with me. I didn’t want to stop listening. Stella Hunter and Stephen Dexter performed the SH*T out of this audiobook. Holy Mackerel! Every wobble and tear, pant and chuckle, nervous laugh and ounce of love, was stunningly narrated. I. Felt. Everything. This duo is pure perfection. If you listen to one audiobook for the remainder of this year, it needs to be this one.
The prologue sets up a foreshadowing of what’s to come. As the story progresses it alternates between the present and the past, until time converges. You get a depth to the fleeting encounter that Callie and the bassist had years ago. Even though you see what’s happening in the present, you’re not necessarily prepared for the past. Callie hates Torren even though she’s drawn to him. Torren refuses to feel anything for Callie, not only because she’s simply a means to an end, an agreement, but because if he doesn’t get close to anyone, he can’t be hurt.
Torren and Callie are a dynamic that I long for in a romance story; they are the perfect MCs. The side characters, which you meet in Between Never and Forever, are fantastic. This story will take you on a journey, one that I refuse to ruin for anyone by giving too much away. Callie is strength personified. Torren is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to those he loves. There are sensitive topics in the book. One especially that hit me hard because I experienced what Callie did, though in a different way. Even 15 years later I feel the pain of it on a daily basis. It may not have taken an extreme talent from me, but it did alter my life irrevocably. I appreciate that Benson wrote the entire scene and the subsequent aftermath in a way that didn’t sugar coat it to make it easy. Because it’s not. Nothing about this story is easy, but damn, it’s so worth it.
Brit Benson’s writing is utter genius. The flow and feel of this entire book is phenomenal; pair that with the ridiculously amazing talent of Stella Hunter and Stephen Dexter? You’ve got a million star audiobook. I’ve listened to Hunter before, but this has to be my favorite narration of hers. She brought every single feeling from Callie off the page in such a brilliant way. Dexter, holy smokes. I think this is the first time I’ve actually heard his narration. I have no idea why, because it was a downright award winning performance. He had my heart soaring, swooning, and breaking. It was one of the best narrations I’ve ever heard. Hands down. The performance of Hunter and Dexter, the feelings they evoked, the absolute masterpiece they created with this audiobook? Took my breath away. Like, I can’t express it better. You NEED this audiobook in your life. Oh, and you definitely need to get the extended epilogue from her website
A huge thank you to Brit Benson and Must Love Audio for allowing me to listen to and review this book. This was such a wonderful audio experience. I’m in love!

Astounding!
"Let me play your bass notes..."
never thought that these words by Torren Effing King would touch me so deeply. We met Torren before and I confess I wasn't impressed. He was in a very toxic relationship with his bandmate, Savannah Loveless, of The Hometown Heartless, but we get to see a whole new side of the handsome and charismatic rockstar.
This story goes back and forth in time in a span of four years. There's a stalker situation going on involving the band and Torren needs to make it publicly clear that he's moved on and is in a relationship with someone other than Savannah.
Enter Callie, whom he met in the funniest of meet cutes involving a dog, also named Torren King. Well, he thinks it's the first time they met, but she's oddly familiar. When the paps mistake her for his new love interest, an idea pops into his mind - she'll pose as his girlfriend and keep the stalker away. But he'll remember that he did indeed meet Callie before... and he will never want her to leave.
I was floored by Between Never and Forever and I thought nothing could beat that story. I was wrong. I devoured this audiobook in one sitting and I loved every single minute of it.
Narrated duet style by Stella Hunter and Stephen Dexter, this one is a joy to listen to. Stella shines as Callie (as a young, starry-eyed fan and as the jaded fake girlfriend) and Stephen Dexter will melt your ears with his incredible performance. And there is music! Kudos to Juno Cooper and Zachary Webber for the perfect words and music for Firebird. AMAZING.
You don't have to listen to book 1 but if you do, you have a better understanding of Torren and the expletive used between his first and last names change meaning from ”*insert bad word here* to "swoon worthy". Trust me. You'll love to be caught in the mess that is The Hometown Heartless. I can't wait for Jonas's story!
Oh, and "sharing is caring"...If you know you know... ;)

Duet, and have tissues ready!
Audible took it to a whole different level, I don't know how Brit does it, but she chooses the best narrators for her stories! Every chapter was amazing, you could feel Torren confused initially not being able to pinpoint Callie, then when he could, the jealousy he felt, you could feel Callie and her pain, her lust her heart. Listen my heart was shattered then put right back together, Brit writes or puts out in audible and it's an automatic click for me, even without knowing what it is about. Do yourself and listen to this duet audio, you seriously won't be disappointed even for one second. The spice was spicing once it got there, this is a well worth slow burn

This book broke me💔
🎶𝚁𝚘𝚌𝚔𝚜𝚝𝚊𝚛 🎸𝚁𝚘𝚖𝚊𝚗𝚌𝚎𝚂𝚎𝚌𝚘𝚗𝚍 𝙲𝚑𝚊𝚗𝚌𝚎🎶𝙷𝚊𝚝𝚎 𝚝𝚘 𝙻𝚘𝚟𝚎🎸𝙵𝚊𝚔𝚎 𝙳𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚐
💭I’m honestly at a loss for words to describe how much I adore this book! It’s been ages since I picked up a rockstar romance, and to be honest, it’s not really my usual jam. I tend to steer clear of this genre because it often involves a lot of groupie (OW drama), which I’ve never really enjoyed. But wow, here I am, giving this a solid 5⭐️, NO REGRETS! This was rage-inducing, super spicy, and utterly heartbreaking, but I freakin’ love it!!
We have Torren King; the bassist with a messy history of a toxic “on again, off again” love affair with Savannah (the FMC of Between Never and Forever), his bandmate. Then there’s Callie, who used to be Torren’s biggest fan, but after what happened to them a few years ago, she held a grudge towards him. I was so intrigued about their past, dying to know what happened to make Callie hate him so. And I have to say, listening to that part was tough, my heart was breaking for Callie.
Torren is such a tortured soul, being a rockstar has not been kind to him, and it takes its toll on his mental health. Even after he breaks free from his toxic relationship with Savannah, he’s still dealing with family issues. He might not remember Callie right away, but there’s this undeniable connection between them, and it’s clear he hasn’t truly forgotten her. I love how obsessed he is with her, the jealousy and tension? Absolutely electric!
Callie is such a fantastic FMC! Her hatred towards Torren is warranted, and once we learn of what happened in the past, I can’t help but feel sorry for her. It must be heartbreaking for her to experience that from someone whom she idolized. She's also such a strong and caring person, she took care of her family, even when they didnt truly appreciate what she did. Callie and Torren are just meant for each other, and I’m rooting for them so HARD!
🎧𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄🎧
Wow, Stephen absolutely knocked it out of the park with his performance! I mean, chapter 40 was just something else. The way he poured his heart into that emotional scene? Let’s just say I was in tears, bawling like a baby! And then there’s Stella as Callie, who was simply fantastic. The chemistry between them really brought the story to life, making it an experience I won’t forget anytime soon. And we are also treated to an incredible song performed by Zachary Webber & Juno Cooper. Honestly, this has got to be one of the best audiobooks I've listened to this year!
