About this listen

Annalise Avery would rather run away than marry the despicable man her stepfather has chosen for her. All he wants is her fortune anyway. Escaping with two servants, Annalise takes employment at Lord Gardiner's town house, disguised as a housekeeper. No one suspects that the new housekeeper for his wild lordship's London pied-à-tierre is a diamond of the first water and a famous horsewoman. But as Annalise becomes familiar with Gardiner's tomcatting, she vows to thwart the despicable man and his lascivious ways. Sleeping powders in the wine and fleas in the bed do just the trick! In the meantime, his lordship has grown quite preoccupied by the very mysterious Lady in Green who rides through the park atop a magnificent steed, spurring hearts young and old - including his own!

Really Enjoyed This Story!

This is one of my favorite books. I love the story, the wit, and charm the author spins into this book. The romance level was just right for the story. I'd highly recommend this book.

Frolicking regency romp!

Stevie Zimmerman gives a stellar performance in this lighthearted yet excellent tale. With laugh out loud moments and seriously thought provoking situations this is one book that is well worth every penny.

Lady in Green

Lady in Green is an amusing story.

I have read 42 of Barbara's books that are available on Kindle. I hope that they are all made available on audible. I absolutely love Stevie Zimmerman as the narrator for Barbara Metzger's stories. I would love for her to narrates them all!

Not one of her best

Normally I enjoy Barbara Metzger’s books, finding them witty and well written. This one dragged and I contemplated not finishing it. If you are the type of person who reads every book by an admired author, as I usually am, take the chance on reading the book. After all, it’s part of the Romantic Escape package.

it was fun romance. The place that this was recorded was horrible. The echo almost made me quit.

Not My Favorite

This story wasnt a pleasure for me. If I had been reading it I would have skimmed at least a third of it's pages.

A fun book

Barbara Metzger is always enjoyable. Stevie Zimmerman is a fine performer.. she is able to give each one of the characters a different voice and personality.

Metzger is a definite fave! Funny and romantic!

although Zimmerman is not as wonderful as Rathborne she does a fine job here. This story has wit and humor and everything else necessary for a smart farcical romance.

Laugh out loud funny

Worth it for the laughs. Book is clean though there are suggestive moments but be careful with Barbara’s Worthy Wife as its not clean and not that good either. This book though is hilarious.

Amusing but somewhat ribald story

This is a plot designed for fun, not intended to be taken seriously. It didn't always work, but it built up & got more amusing as things went on.

Not for those looking for clean, traditional Regency stories. The hero's sexual interests & frustrations are discussed fairly frankly. We're let in on the building physical interest between the two, but it's not discussed in the voyeuristic, soft porn style of so many modern "romances".

The reader overall does well, but as I have noted on another review of a different book she read, her voice struggles when trying to sound masculine. It doesn't bother me much, but noting it here for those it will.

Overall, it was engaging & entertaining.
